I really am getting antsy for a new series.

This board has a ton of discussion, a ton of theories of why X will or won't happen etc, etc.

Cutting through all that red tape for a second, I just feel it necessary to say I am getting really antsy for a new series.

By this point I've seen every trek series so many times now that I think I am officially at the point now where none of the current series can fulfill my need to watch Star Trek anymore.

This is becoming troublesome.

Anyone else feel this way ?

In the case of TOS - absolutely not. I truly, truly love the show. I've literally lost count of the times I've watched each and every episode. I probably enjoy them more as time goes on if that's even possible - my affection for the programme just continues to grow. The recent release on Blu-ray has been pure bliss for me.

I've got my need for a serial targeted on The Clone Wars. The best sci-fi series on TV at the moment. Someday Trek will be back to TV where it belongs, and Star Wars in the cinema where it belongs. But I'm enjoying how things are now. I just wonder if by the time Trek XII does come out, if the coolness factor [aka Joe Six Pack $uccess] will have melted away.

I have felt that way since ENT went off the air. Me no like being without Star Trek for any amount of time.

I've got my need for a serial targeted on The Clone Wars.

It's better than I expected from a "kid's show" from George Lucas (all is forgiven for those prequels, well almost) but it's not the same as having Star Trek back. The tone (too action heavy), underlying philosophy (more fantasy than sci fi - which is okay for Star Wars, I'm not trying to start a fight!) and aesthetics (animation rather than live action - granted, that allows for some eye-poppingly beautiful visuals) just aren't the same.

I just wonder if by the time Trek XII does come out, if the coolness factor [aka Joe Six Pack $uccess] will have melted away.

The next two movies will probably be big hits like the last one was. I'm hoping the foreign BO does better (it was only about 33% of the total and most big summer popcorn movies nowadays are more like 50% or above), which will make a stronger case for a TV series that can be sold globally.

Trek isn't anywhere near played out for me, though, of course, I have been ready for new Trek since Enterprise went off the air.

DS9, I watched on initial Run, and watched my DVD sets twice now
TNG, watched most in first run, have caught odd reruns here and there, but, never done a full rewatch, waiting for Remasters to get the Sets, since I don't have them
ENT, Watched msot of S1 and S2, about half of S3 and all of S4 in First run. Doing my first rewatch now, up to 3.21.
Voyager, missed most of S4-7 first run, so looking forward to my first rewatch.
TOS/TAS - been watching episodes since the 1970s through Syndication and watched my S1 and S2 original Tricorder DVD sets twice. Now I have TOS-R S1 - S3, and haven't watched them yet, so looking forward to seeing the new/remastered effects.

You know, there's a lot of assumption going on this thread I bluntly find mean and probably a big reason I don't post often at this site anymore.

I mean lets start off with the comments about watching other shows --- does anyone REALLY think that since the period Enterprise ended I haven't watched anything else besides reruns of Trek since? Come on, seriously? That's a bit conceded / naive, don't you think? There's several series I've been following, but of course none of them are a Trek series, which I miss ... a lot.

Comments about getting a girl friend --- that was seemingly made as a bad jest, but that was rubbing salt in the wound, buddy. That makes the assumption that I might not share interests with a special person (which I do, thank you very much).

My main intent for this thread was to stress that it's been a long time since we had an active Star Trek series now and I'm really starting to feel it and miss it.

Regarding novels --- that's a good point, to be blunt, following them (I'll admit I mostly read full summaries of the novels and not the novels themselves) has actually made me yearn to see those stories in the flesh and PROBABLY made me want to see Trek back on the TV more. Path 2409, Full Circle among other story projects just makes me wish we had series actively showing the impact of the exploits of each of the "Next Gen Series".

It sadly might be reality that we're not gonna get a live action series any time soon, but that doesn't mean people need to actively bash the idea.

It's possible you have become burned out on Trek TV series.
May I suggest you try
Fan Productions (forum) such as the great Phase II series episodes.

Or there are hundreds of books. There are books set in each series with the same characters you love. Let your imagination do the work. Trek Literature forum.

Or you can try Trek comic books which are very visual. see this thread:

there is a $18. DVD-ROM you can get called Star Trek: The Complete Comic Book Collection that has dozens of issues of comic books as PDF files.

If none of these appeal to you then just take a break from Trek. cold turkey.

Since the end of Enterprise, what's your favorite new TV space opera?

There are other Trek based activities you can engage in.

Getting in protracted arguments with board members here who think that all the TV episodes and the first ten movies can be discussed and analyzed, but that the last movie is off limits in every way is alway fun.
