I now know how a Mafia type feels after murder!

The idea that you're forgiving of actual criminals (up to and including murderers) but not someone who litters, is actually mental.

But you know that, right?

RIGHT?

Murder, that is, the killing of an individual, may be justified - for right or wrong - by a motive, whether personal or political. Exactly as it is in the case of war, murder is a very complex topic which is not only beyond the scope of this thread, but also forgivable - if not necessarily excusable - for any number of reasons.

A man may kill another based on culture, tradition, honor, political passion, or even percieved moral conviction; but the litterer exhibits no such passion. To the contrary, he proves that he has no desire to respect or honor himself, his fellow, or any common rule of order. His virtue or vice is not rooted in strength of character, but in lack thereof; and unlike many evils which the doers thereof hide beneath the surface of their lives, that small vice of littering impacts not merely the infected party, but all those beyond the realm of its grasp.

Litter reflects a psychological condition of low self-esteem; it fosters a condition of moral depravity. It is thus no surprise that the regions wherein one may find the greatest degree of criminal activity and human despondancy are also rife with unkept yards and filthy streets.

God, give me a break. Dumping a mattress in the middle of nowhere. Big F-n deal! It's not hurting a thing, and if it is really in the middle of nowhere then nobody will ever see it.

All manner of critters will probably live inside of the thing. But people act like he has committed a serious crime. It's not like he dumped a bunch of toxic waste in the middle of a populated area or something.

I'm not saying that it was a great thing to do, but it certainly isn't any sort of a horrible thing to do either.

No, it'll grow mold and mildew. Oh, and the inside has springs and wire -- something which a four-legged critter could get caught and injured. Yep, no big deal

Yeah, because no animal has EVER lived in a junkyard.

Yep, it really isn't a big deal.

I tend to be forgiving of a number of criminal behaviors depending on circumstance, up to and occasionally including murder; but littering is one thing that I find deeply and unconditionally offensive.

There are a lot of criminal activites that I can forgive, depending on circumstances, up to and including murder. Littering isn't one of them.

Note to self: Make sure to dispose of bodies in the proper trash receptacle instead of dumping them alongside the road. Bask in the light of forgiveness.

That being said, Jayson, I don't know if this incident actually happened or if you're just trying to be funny (in which case you failed), but not cool.

Right. People, such as myself, who live in the country, just love it when some brainless city twit dumps his trash on a side road or "out of the way" place

Animals are stupid, survival of the fittest.

Is it an American thing that you have to pay to dispose of large items specifically at the dump? Maybe not all around the UK, but for my area at least, you can dump what you like at the local waste site for free (as long as it's not commerical waste) and you dump it in the appropriate section (i.e. general, wood, glass, appliances etc.)
Depends on the local situation. Every one that I've been to has been free. Waste pickup is the same way - where I used to live waste management was run by the city and paid for with taxes. Out here its done by a private company, and we pay about $15/month for the service.

Funny, the other day I had to "take care" of someone for "snitching" to the "cops" about our "legitimate business." When I was dumping the body in the woods, I thought "Huh, now I know how those guys that dump mattresses out here feel."

The commercial waste thing can sometimes be annoying - the only time I can take something to the dump is in my mates van. Of course as it's a van they argue it's commercial waste and charge me to dump it. Yet if we clear out the centre, that actually does count as commercial waste and if taken to the dump in a car... it's free.

Aside from that - I've not been charged for putting large items in the dump, but some councils have charged for pickups.
