I never noticed that before...Movie Edition

Another thing I noticed about the ilia Probe is that, when she is with Decker, McCoy and Chapel in her quarters, and she “reverts” to her biological personality for a minute, the glow from her sensor/transceiver dulls. When she returns to the “probe personality” it glows bright again.

Oh, that's interesting! I'll have to keep an eye out for that the next time I see the movie.

The first time I saw TMP, the main thing I noticed about the Ilia probe was LEGS. Of course, I had just turned 14, so I think that had something to do with it.

Looking at those stills and closeups from TVH and TUC, I can see how they tried to get the new appliance molds to look the same, but because the originals weren't still around, there are differences.

In TUC, Kirk has a model of the TOS NCC-1701 Enterprise in his quarters. I've seen TUC millions of times but for some reason only noticed this when watching the 4K version of it.

Appliance molds? Are you referring to something with Ilia, or something else?

There's also once or twice in the new DE where they're a little more careful about switching the voice modulation on and off in the last scenes when the probe is switching personas back-and-forth pretty quickly.

That's an AMT model kit Ron Moore (the writer, not the VFX coordinator) built as a kid, interestingly enough. I hardly ever made it out myself in the movie, I only learned it was there from the Okudas' text commentary on the DVD.

Took me a second, too, that's doubling back to the post about how the Klingon Ambassador looked a little different between TVH and TUC. The molds for the make-up appliances for his forehead.

Rewatching TFF, I noticed that there are portholes in the corridor outside the brig. Unfortunately the stars outside the ship are not moving, even though the Enterprise is at high warp.

I don't understand how a separate paragraph and a reference to the later films before mentioning the makeup could be confusing. Ilia didn't need appliances, anyway;).

It was only on my last rewatch, when the 4K came out, that TWOK - in the Genesis cave - has three 3' tall cylinders in the background for some reason. It's not the cylinder props themselves, but the colors that I didn't pick up on. One is yellow, one is blue, one is red. As set props they otherwise look authentic for sure, but yet for the colors... and how they'd otherwise be overlooked if not shown together in the same camera vantage point, so it's probably a callback/easter egg/memberberry/whatever to the TOS uniform color scheme, but on their own they add some needed color to the cave walls. Hmmm, cave walls, beige, beige (as is gray) is popular as a house and business interior paint color...
