I need a reading suggestion

I'm in the mood to read a Trek book. I rarely read them, so I want something good. I don't want it to be part of a big series, since I don't know when I can get to another book in a series.
Let's have recomendations. Thanks in advance.

Some recently published books:

Q&A (TNG) by Keith R.A. DeCandido -- although this is set after Nemesis and there are a bit of crew shakeups, this is basically a stand alone book on Q.

The Buried Age (TNG) by Christopher L. Bennett -- this is Picard's story between when he lost Stargazer and when he was given command of the Enterprise.

Burning Dreams (TOS) by Margaret Wander Bonanno -- this is Captain Pike's story.

From the "Lost Era" books, I recommend these:

The Sundered by Michael A. Martin & Andy Mangels -- Sulu's story

Serpents Among the Ruins by David R. George III -- this is the story of why the Romulans retreated back into their territory in early 24th century, and an excellent book on Captain Harriman of Enterprise B

The Art of the Impossible by Keith R.A. DeCandido -- this is the story of the 18 years dispute between the Klingons and the Cardassians mentioned by Garak during "The Way of the Warrior".

I don't have my books next to me, so these are the ones just off the top of my head.

Crucible: McCoy by David George III. I found it a great book, not just a great ST book, especially if you love TOS.

also, Federation.

Seconded, but don't feel worried about the new crew. They're all wallpaper anyway; there only so that it's not Picard and Worf manning the whole bridge all by themselves.

"Troublesome Minds" by Dave Galanter. Judging by your photo, you're a TOS fan and Galanter does a nice job of capturing the voices of the original series crew. The story is a fun read, not too long and completely standalone. Additionally, you can still find this book available at nearly any bookstore that carries Trek product. No special orders or hunting required.

Heck, I've seen the book at my local grocery store!

What a perfect list :techman:. I second every single one of these and also put a shout out to Ex Machina by Christopher L. Bennett. It deals with the original crew from TOS right after the end of TMP. A solo book and a fantastic read :).

Oh, I forgot about that one!

Yes! That one is great!

I miss the days when I could get Trek books at the drugstore or market. I fondly remember getting fanzines at a liquor store when I was a kid.

Actually, I love all the incarnations of Star Trek. That book has certainly gotten a lot of positive feedback here. I'll keep it in mind. Keep up with the recomendations. After this book, I'll need to do some more reading.

I finally decided on Q&A, since the notes said it's a follow-up to Resistance, which I recently read. I'll let you know how I like it. Thanks for the suggestions.

Update. I'm about halfway through Q & A, and heartily enjoying it. Thanks again for the recomendations.
