I made a script to convert the "Star Trek Comic Book Collection" into usable CBR/CBZ files

Hey friends - spent a few days putting this incredibly niche script together and am finally ready to share it! More detailed information can be found on the GitHub page, but wanted to post it here for others since I know I'm not the only one who owns the collection here.

Also, apologies if this isn't the perfect forum for this - I figured it was most applicable to those interested in Star Trek comics and felt the "Trek Literature" forum was a good fit.

If anyone has any questions or thoughts I'd love to hear them! And of course if you encounter any issues do post them on the repository.

FREE MALWARE FOR ALL!!!!! Are these public domain comics?

None of the comics are included with the script, you have to own a copy of the collection yourself.

As for the malware part - all the code (only ~150 lines) is viewable within Github. So anyone can see what it’s doing, or make adjustments as they please. It should also be noted that, as a security precaution, shell scripts are not executable until the user manually assigns ‘+x’ permissions.

"The "Trek Converter" script was written to fit a very niche problem for owners of the Star Trek: The Complete Comic Book Collection DVD. " (from the github website)

I don't own the DVD, I just wanted to salute your effort, @KlingonCereal !

Thank you! I make these sorts of scripts all the time, but rarely share them! Most of the work for this was honestly in making it run as safely as possible across all systems.

Don't worry - this is a response to a problem being discussed in another thread.

However, it's good advice not to download anything you don't know - so thank you @KlingonCereal for posting the code for people to review.

Of course! I apologize for not checking in with you all prior - I honestly wasn’t certain how to message y’all (this is the only forum i’m active in). For future reference, what’s the best way to directly contact y’all before I post something like this?

There's no need for you to have asked first. I think the only thing that might have helped would be to have linked to the original thread where you were discussing the problems with two page scans. That way it would be clearer to anyone coming to this thread without reading the other one first. But honestly there is no problem with what you have done - it just got misinterpreted (and that happens all the time, no matter how hard anyone tries :D )

I'm in the cyber field and GitHub can be sticky at times.......from last summer "GitHub has uncovered a form of malware that spreads via infected repositories on its system. It has spent the last ten weeks unpicking what it describes as a form of “virulent digital life”.
