I love the USS Discovery

Of course, nacelles on their sides are a feature of Trek ships; the Constellation class has this particular engine type in that orientation, say.

There's always also the option that these models were put together by kids whose proud parents overlook the assembly errors... Or, say, Sisko overlooks or even appreciates the fact that lil' Jake threw the model of the Daedalus class together from random pipes and drinking bottles and whatnot and glued a baseball in place of the actual primary hull, too!

It's a delight on the 47th rewatch of "Sorrow" to see how little kitbashing is actually going on with the all-new designs there. All the different S31 ships are unique, with different nacelles and hulls and bridges, despite clearly being "of a family". The fighter-scooters and the repair bots are their own thing (or are they cut-and-pasted from some other scifi project altogether?). The combat add-ons to the shuttles are custom, complex and detailed. Even the D7 model appears to have been fine-tuned for its second appearance here.

I'll have to do rewatch 48 to spot whether there really were any combat mods to the workbees or the "Brother" pods...

This one? It was either redone for (I wanna say) DS9 or they made a similar one for Sisko's office (or Picard's ready room?).

This build of the AMT refit kit has the nacelles turned on their sides, the saucer window pieces painted black and the whole thing painted silver.

ETA: Here it is in Picard's ready room (best pic I could find).

Fun fact: That model was built by Rod Roddenberry. I guess if Gene's son puts the nacelles on backward then the nacelles go backward, dammit!
