In last weeks episode she....

Tells Spock to "know when to shut up" as she is in a huff because she can't go on an away mission. Seriously?????
Why is this an issue? She was processing and he was going on about it. It was not really bad advice. They spend the preceding minutes showing how excited she was to finally get to go on an away mission. For you to get bent over that comment, you are already dismissing the character and looking for something to get pissed off at.

They don't like the character.

Many times I see people justify the opinion rather than own the idea there are going to be characters people don't like.

Hell, half of Dr. McCoy's character was making funny, sometimes inappropriate, commentary towards the situations they were facing. Hell, he was downright rude to Spock on multiple occasions..

I noticed that a lot too. That would NEVER fly in a real military as you are told not to ever say, "I can't do that" or "That's not my job."

"IM A DOCTOR NOT A.. . ."

If you're nothing more than a country doctor then just shut the hell up and stay in sick bay.

Yeah, calling them "Marvel-style" betrays a shallowness of awareness.

Everything wasn't invented when you first discovered it

...and blatantly ignoring that later works refine and/or popularize an element of entertainment betrays willful ignorance. There is a genuine reason as to why this brand of (highly subjective) humor is oft-attributed to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Good grief.

I heard quips on multiple shows across my formative years, 80s, 90s, Trek, etc.

Quips are not new.

"Good, I hate long waits."

The 80s and 90s were certainly the era of one liners

"ILL BE BACK!"
"SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!"

Or you could just follow the entire James Bond franchise since it began in the early 60s. Every single movie regardless of actor had funny or smart alecky quips.

Or how about " Frankly Scarlet, I don't give a damn"

And who can ever forget this guy?

I'm not sure would win in a war of one liners
: Harrison Ford or Arnold Schwarzenegger . It would be quite the battle.

Arnold would have a big lead just for Batman and Robin alone. Almost ever time Mr Freeze opened his mouth was a quip or one liner.

Plus Commando, and even Conan the Barbarian.

But, Harrison Ford does a lot with his Jack Ryan roles and such too.

Dang. We might need a rap battle.

ETA: Damn it!

No, with unobservant.
Watching 80s action films is largely waiting for the puns and quips to underscore the destruction. Heroes are often as much about a good verbal smack down as a physical one. Errol Flynn was great with one liners. Dumas made one word responses to enemy destruction epic in the Count of Monte Cristo with Edmond counting off his victims after every finishing, one... two...

Comedy, quips, and one liners are an age old convention in action stories.
