Here we go again what?
You can say negative things about every character, every series, every episode, if negativity is all that you're looking for. I was looking through some of the older posts and came across one that listed "bad" characters... Wesley Crusher, Jake Sisko, the cast of Voyager and the cast of Enterprise.
What horse shit.
Thirty years later, the bloom off the rose, every thing annoying about TNG is obvious when I re-watch episodes.
Levar Burton can't act. Don't tell me about "Roots"; Big movies like that have experienced directors and these things called "acting coaches". It's painful to watch Levar Burton act in any complex scenes, especially when he's got the spotlight, beyond complaining about what's wrong with his engine room.
Counselor Troi was pointless. Someone had to be telepathic, and we didn't want another Vulcan. too soon. "I sense..." "I feel..." Shut UP.
Am I supposed to believe that Data went through the academy and by the time he got to the Enterprise, he was still profoundly confused by human interaction? Please. The "I want emotions" shtick was so obnoxious and simplistic. Why the hell would a machine want emotions in the first place?
Don't get me started on Beverly Crusher. Even they knew she was hopelessly boring, so they tried to replace her... with someone stiff as a board and even more boring.
I remember when he series came out, people thought Will Riker was the captain. Right.
Tasha Yar? I'm surprised that this "head of security" wasn't shown in stiletto heels and an evening gown for her uniform. Totally unbelievable in the role, and when she spoke, it sounded to me like she was going to break out singing "I wanna be loved by you, boop-boop-e -do" at any moment.
So let's spend the next thirty years with the rose-colored glasses off, picking apart every flaw in this very flawed series,
so that no one else can enjoy it.
While writing this, I was reminded of middle and high school. You'd start dating someone, something would click, and then you'd put these rose-colored goggles on. Everything about this person would be magical. Every nuance, every habit, every moment you were together was perfect.
Then a week later, something else would click, and off came the goggles. Now, everything about this person was an annoyance that turns you off. The sound of their voice, their annoying habits. Their sickening personality nuances.
This is really what we're talking about here. Rose colored glasses on, or rose colored glasses off?
Because, objectively... Sulu and Chekov were as boring as Kim and Paris, Chekov's hair had the same intent as Seven's tits, Shatner couldn't act, but neither could Burton, "Siddig" or Philips, Troi and Kes served the same function, and were interesting for about a week. Neelix, Yar, and Scott Bakula were mis-cast. (Thank GOD they got rid of the original Captain Janeway). And watching the same stupid hostility of McCoy, "Siddig" or Kira grates on one's nerves. Jake Sisko and Welsey?
It is ALL how you look at it?
