I like Talas!

Flying Spaghetti Monster

Vice Admiral
Admiral
So, this very petite female Andorian, introduced in "Babel One," where, the first time we see her, she is injured and on a biobed in sickbay, manages to, later in the episode, handily beat up a male MACO in unarmed combat (general Hayes claimed these were his best men) while never really seeming apprehensive or nervous.
Just sayin...

She was actually introduced in "Proving Ground" (I only know that because I just watched that episode a couple of days ago :ouch:). She actually had some pretty good chemistry with Reed in that episode. Too bad they killed her off in Season Four.

As did I. Although I was fine with her death.

During TNG, K'Ehleyr's too after only two appearances.

You know, if it adds importance to one of the other characters.

I've not read any with them in (well, aside from the last two or three ENT ones), but in the books Andorian family units are more like the Denobulans aren't they?

Then again, that's probably more reason for not killing her... I guess.

The books have Andorians marry in groups of four because they have four genders and thus four partners are required for reproduction. However, usually one of the "male" partners ends up paired emotionally with one of the "female" partners in a one-on-one relationship.

I always thought it was a bit stupid on the Trek novel writers' part to assume that "four partners in a marriage" (as mentioned on TNG) automatically equated to "four genders in a species." Literary SF writers like Ursula LeGuin have done a fine job of disproving that.

I don't think they "assumed" it or took the line too literally. I think they just found the concept intriguing and alien enough that it would be worth exploring. Honestly, while I find it a bit convoluted, I do like that not every humanoid species has only two genders.

Talas was one of the best minor characters on the show. The chemistry between her and Malcolm in "Proving Ground" was brilliant. But like so many things, the writers made a complete monkey's breakfast of what they had to play with.

First there was this out-of-left-field affair of hers with Shran. There was not the least bit of chemistry between them and then they let her hop around in her underwear for a moment, before killing her off needlessly.

It would have added much more to the plot of the Babel-arc to have her board the drone-ship with Malcolm, rather than killing her off to contrive a short brawl between Super!Archer and Shran.

Imagine the possibilities - showing the humble beginnings of interspecies cooperation by having Talas and Malcolm beam over and that's not even mentioning the other possibilities to show a budding affection between these two - they certainly had the chemistry for it. :techman:

I knew that and the last time I watched the episode was over two years ago.

Just sayin'... in case this is a nerd contest, I think I have won.

You may now commence the praising. ;)

I wasn't trying to out-nerd anyone. I literally did not know that was her first appearance before then because that was the first time I'd ever seen "Proving Ground."

We could still have her hop around in her underwear though, right? ;)

Aw, damn, and here I was, with a glass of champagne, ready to celebrate my nerdy victory over you! :p

I agree. I felt that Talas should have been with Malcolm. Also, if season five was to happen, I would like to see an Imperial guard mission that has Malcolm and Talas in it.
