I like Abrams script for Superman

VulcanJedi

Captain
Captain
Ever read it? It's wild and all over the place with crazy Superman lore like those silly superman spaceships with the fist-guns.

I like it.

At least that would be different and not forehead alien of the week.

Ummm...

WHAT Superman spaceships with fist-guns?

That's not part of the Superman mythos. (I'm guessing you're not a Superman fan and just assumed it WAS part of the story. It isn't.)

Care to point me to where the script be read on the web, or at least give a more detailed synopsis?

Here

I didn't like it, it's not a bad movie script, but a horrible Superman script.

Actually, it is a relic of a late 70s Superman storyline where he'd lost his powers (can't remember why, exactly) and he built this ship in his fortress. The "fist-guns" were extensible harms/hands to carry things and grapple with enemies (including a Toyman robot--IIRC). The ship also had some sort of laser cannon to emulate heat vision (I don't remember if they fired out of the "fists").

I didn't like what I heard about it either, though I never read it. Krypton doesn't blow up, Lex Luthor is actually Kryptonian (Luth-Or .... oh puhlease), childhood Clark kills a man who tries to rape Ma Kent. Bleurgh. Even worse than Kevin Smith's Superman Lives.

I do like MI3 and Lost though and Abrams has insisted that the Trek mythos will be respected, so I'm still relaxed about how he tackles ST.

It wasn't a pathetic story, but it wasn't true to Superman, either. It did more than take liberties with the comic book legend, it completely redid it.

I can see why Abrams et al are emphatic about staying true to what came before in Trek.

I've never read it but I read a synopsis of it. Think it was Stax over at IGN that did it. Anyway, it didn't sound too awful, although certainly not very faithful to the character's origins.

The main thing to keep in mind on that one I think is that the Superman development process was like ten years of studio meddling and ridiculousness. I'd be willing to bet that JJ had all kinds of weird stuff he was required to write in there to satisfy the suits. This of course isn't a problem for Trek since he's got complete creative control right up to final cut, IIRC.

That's what I'm talking about. The script mentioned Superman spaceships---that's what I picture when someone says that.

Here's a comic with the "fist vehicle" I'm not sure if Abram's script mentioned this for sure.

There used to be a hot wheels sized toy out in the 1970s of this little ship.

^ You know, I think I may actually have had a toy of that. Or it might have been my brother's. But since you see all sorts of superhero merchandise released that never actually appeared in the comics - Spider-man helicopters, Batman spaceships etc - I just assumed that this was another one of those. Never realised till now that it appeared in a comic.
