The study almost gets a "duh" response from me. I guess it's because I've had my cat for so long that I know all her tricks. She still tries to control me, but I kinda see through it.
One thing that rings true for me was at the end where they said that the purr-cry isn't used in large families where it might not be noticed. I have two brothers, so my cat just does a loud cry, since it gets more attention. But she knows that tends to be annoying, so she has her other trick, which is to sit on your lap while you watch TV and patiently wait you out, and then try and get food. That one fooled me for a couple of years before I figured it out.

I have a cat who is as manipulative as they come! He is CONSTANTLY hungry and is into EVERYTHING! And he meows to you when to feed him, gets in your face, butts heads with you, and starts pounding and digging your side, wanting you to feed him.
I know a friend of the family who is TERRIFIED of cats! She thinks that they are the devil's reincarnate and she can't stand them. She literally went berserk when we had a fat cat and she found her in my closet one day lying down. Heaven forbid the world was coming to an end!
