I just wet my pants

The ad copy is good, as well, but the copy for the "Visit Genesis!" poster had me in stitches.

"Lava not your thing? Turn around, and there's snow. Snow! In the same sector! Fascinating."

Great parody!

Scary thing is, if you take the wheel wells out of the nacelles, they would actually be a cool design.

Just think if Star Trek had started in the 50's instead of the 60's what would've it been like?

I think it would be a hoot for one of the 3D artists here to take it seriously (patch the wheel wells, stucco over the car windows, and so forth) and model & texture it as a serious design.

It's the 1950's-Prise...

By the looks of the warp nacelles, maybe more like 1962. (1962 Ford Thunderbird!)
Looks more like a ’63 to me. The 1961 and ’62 models didn't have the heavy sheet-metal crease that extends about two-thirds of the way back.

1963 (top); 1962 (bottom)

The photon torpedo launchers at the base of the neck, if that's what they're supposed to be, are 1959 Cadillac taillights.

Well, obviously, it started out looking like a '62. But that's clearly a painting of the refit Enterprise, which looks more like a '63...

Well, I was bored and that nacelle kept nagging at me. So here is my interpretation of it. I threw it on to one of my existing projects just out of curiosity. And yes, that crease in the body of the nacelle is a bitch to model in Sketchup. I think the nacelle does look pretty cool though, I may have to create a project around it. hehe.

The nacelles are really intriguing. But the cgi model looks too flat for me. I like a tall ship. ;)

Thanks for enjoying the Retroprise!
I referenced a 1963 Ford Thunderbird with Chevy taillights for torpedo launchers, and added some tiny lights and unnecessary vents common to other vehicles of the period.
The deflector dish housing is also an enlarged version of the taillight on the thunderbird.

Any of you play Star Trek Bridge Commander? I'm having my brother, who is one of the top rated modelers in the forum for that game, make a playable version of this. As soon as I can get him clear elevation views for 3D Max.

Thanks always,

Welcome aboard!

As you may have noticed, we LOVE your design, even though it is a "gag" riffing on car ads (and the gag is pretty damned funny too - so I guess it works on a number of levels.)

I find your design to be tall and airy and graceful, and I think it would look wonderful to develop it into a "real" ST starship.
