I just watched "Thirty Days" and wondered..

Where is the restroom facilities in the brig? Does he push a button and it comes out of the wall? If so, you think the guard would give him some privacy? Or what about a shower? All he had in there was this one bunk to lay on with no covers or anything.

Re: I just watched "Thirty Days" and wondered ...

An obvious answer would be, that they can leave the brig (not without the necessary guard, of course) and are brought to a nearby restroom.

Or they really push a button and the toilet slips off the wall; just like the seats in Star Trek V. I think the more impotant question is: Are there aeration systems in the brig? ;)

Good question. Now that I think about it, I cannot recall ever seeing toilet facilities in any Star Trek brig.

I believe I've seen seats slide out of the wall, but that's about it.

I'll be watching more closely now.

Re: I just watched "Thirty Days" and wondered ...

Brigs usually just have a toilet set right out in the open, no privacy intended. Just hope your cellmate doesn't piss on the seat.

I feel more sorry for him every time I think of this episode.

I assume there's a potty/shower combo in the general brig area prisoners are allowed to use, if they aren't deemed too dangerous. (Then you just lock them up in a nice suite of their own, like Suder)

Trek brigs have never made sense, once you ponder their setup in detail. Much like most Trek sets.

It's a jail cell.

In no jail cell do you have privacy or comforts. You're in there because you are being punished. You aren't there for a resort vacation. ;)

But don't jail cells have toilets and a blanket to cover up with?

While it's called a "blanket", it's nothing more than a thicker sheet.

Yes, they have toilets but they're in plain view. Privacy is a luxury you aren't always afforded in jail. They do so because criminals smuggle in drugs as well as to watch for inmales that may attempt suicide. A blanket or sheet can also be used as a noose. Toilets have a minimal amount of water in them to prevent drowning. ;)

Sheets are usually used to cover up cell bars so inmates can have sex in semi-privacy.

When you say "guard" there is no line between these people, everyone is Toms friend on Voyager, it's not like they'd ferret out the one guy who hates him to be the guard... And if he is so popular what about conjugal visits to test out that sex curtain?

Oh,I don't know, I'm sure there were still a few die hard Maquis and Fleet loyalists who remembered more of his failings than good points aboard Voyager and in the security business. I would think Tuvok and Chakotay would be sympathetic enough to avoid assigning them to guard him, though.

And I never really got the idea of sending Harry to see him instead of B'Elanna that time. I mean, was Harry really any less a comfort or temptation?

I think there was no toliet in the brig because Trek has ben resitant to showing toliets. In fact I don't think they ever did.

I don't remember ever seeing one myself. We saw a few bathrooms. Tubs and a sonic shower were seen. But no toilets.

I always assumed the toilet came out of the wall with the push of a button, like the sink and other seats.

It's been supposed that the replicator doubles as a toilet since it needs basic matter as building blocks, but what fool would give a replicator to a prisoner.

Catheta?

Shitting where you eat?

In Star Trek V, the deployable seat that Kirk sits on IS the toilet (it's marked as such, and we only really noticed when the DVD finally came out). It's been discussed elsewhere on this forum before, and is about the ONLY reference we have to a toilet in the whole franchise.

As for the Voyager brig, that wall unit must have a similar thing, or at least a covering for it, as taking a crap is rarely a major plot point in Trek...

If you notice above kirks shoulder in the pic, you can see what looks like a button, and the metal panel below it looks like it has a slot that is about the right size for TP.

You'd think maybe they'd have something better than charmin ultrasoft by then...whers the shells??

The sign says, Do not use while in Spacedock. Why can't you crap while in Spacedock?
I would assume that's where they would be "flushing out the system".

Just like you can't use an Airplane restroom after landing & docking.
