I just watched Aquiel

TroiFan4ever

Commander
Red Shirt
Interesting mysetery episode... however, it left a few episodes burning in my brain...

We never found out who killed Rocha... that Klingon or that brown thing.

Aquiel was believed to be the killer, I get it. She left the Enterprise, true and they were looking for her. It was kind of suspenseful when I saw Riker threatening her at phaserpoint. Kind of heartwrenching but what exactly was the point of that scene?

When the dog turned into the brown thing that was trying to get Geordi, was it that thing that attacked and killed Rocha?

Why did Aquiel have a funny forehead, yet act exactly like a young girl who grew up in, say, California? What in the world was the reason for making her a funny-forehead alien? It had NOTHING to do with the script, and created a bit of :wtf: because she acted so perfectly human.

I haven't seen the episode in a long time, but that's how I remember it.

Enjoyed the colony creature, glad Geordi had something to do in it. Not too much else of note in that one.

RAMA

I think we're meant to go with the 'brown thing' killing Rocha. I do think Aquiel was a good episode overall though.

Honestly, I find this one of the more interesting entries in an otherwise-mostly-forgettable Season 6. At least this felt like a sci-fi plot and had an interesting mystery angle. Of course, it dragged a bit here and there and had the boring-post-Ron Jones-wallpaper music of the last 3 1/2 seasons, but it's not bad.

I missed Aquiel on first run, and somehow managed to miss it on reruns for ages too. When I finally caught up with it, I was looking forward to a TNG ep I hadn't yet seen. Oh well, so much for that idea.

It's got a couple of interesting little ideas, but far more frequent dull patches.

IIRC, Geordi saves himself because he has a phaser in a drawer in his quarters.
Ain't that against the rules?

I was really looking forward to a Geordie episode when it came out, and I was so disappointed. They were trying to figure out who the killer was and in the end for it to turn out to be the dog was just ludicrous. Very poorly written.

I don't think the dog was the killer. The coalescent organism was. It merely took the form of the dog.
