I just saw the PERFECT designation for this movie

Some people have been asking how we're going to refer to this film down the road.

I was just at the International Movie Database website, and saw something that almost escaped my notice.

It struck me as the PERFECT reference for this movie. It'll satisfy the haters, the blind insensitive lovers, those who just want to see a new Trek film "no matter what", and even those who (like me) will see the film, but wish there'd been fewer visual and continuity changes.

What WAS that designation?

"Star Trek ZERO".

Star Trek Zero, huh? Well, Abrams and his Cohorts do love the number zero. *cough*Kelvin registry*cough*

As M'Sharak showed above, the idea of 'Star Trek Zero' is not new. Orci said that this film could be considered Star Trek Zero about a year ago way back in the December 2007 issue of Scifi Magazine.

He talked about "Star Trek Zero" again during the Q&A session he had with fans on trekmovie.com way back in January:

As we’ve said before, it will simply be Star Trek. We’ve used the term Star Trek Zero a few times to remind new audiences who have felt that Trek has passed them by that they can tune in and be introduced to the world anew.

I think down the road it'll probably be called "Abrams' Trek" or something like that.

I have no idea what the question is, as far as I know it's refered to as Star Trek

But I think I may end up mentioning it as "The Great Trek" here and there to my grandchildren. :)

Yep. Not that far down the road either, I'm betting. The folks at Memory Alpha will probably use that description for it to differentiate it from the previous continuity.

I think the fact that as a movie it's only titled Star Trek already does that though. All previous Trek movies had some sort of subtitles.

I was thinking "Star Trek: JJ"

If it stinks, it'll be "Star Trek: Orci the Killer Whale"

If they totally trash canon, it'll be "Star Trek: Loose Canon On Deck"

Well, the original series entitled "Star Trek" is generally referred to as TOS, the animated series of the same name is referred to as TAS....

Maybe the next one'll be referred to as POS.

Except of course for the series that started it all being called just "Star Trek" by itself.
