I just rewatched Emmisary for the second time.

Yep, Michael Piller at his best.

The scenes where the Prophets make Sisko realize that he's been needlessly holding onto Jennifer's death is a very powerful Trek moment to me.

I just saw Emissary last week too and I think I appreciate it a whole lot more. At first it seemed to go over my head (I was only 9 at the time) but the more I watch it, the more I love it, especially Sisko talking to the Prophets about Linear time. I still like Caretaker better, but Emissary is my second favorite pilot.

The script had a great bit there when the Prophet asks Sisko what Baseball is:

Prophet: Baseball? What is this?

Sisko: I was afraid you'd say that...

SISKO PAUSES, "How the hell do you explain baseball to an alien?"

The best parts of Emissary are Sisko's dialogue with The Prophets, especially the realization at the end that he hadn't got over the death of Jennifer. I can't help but feel sorry and sad for him. It also has the best teaser of all the treks.

My favourite Trek pilot to date is 'Caretaker', but, then, I haven't seen 'Emissary' properly in many years. I might have to check it out again. I was 11 when DS9 premiered, I'd probably appreciate 'Emissary' a lot more now.
