I just heard some very pleasant news

That's great news, Miss Chicken. I hope it's permanent. :bolian:

Did the doctors do any testing or scanning when this happened? Personally, I'd be a little worried if I felt a pop in my head, even if it led to improved vision.

I am not sure what tests the doctors did yesterday. I only heard about this from my Mum last night just before I posted. Mum told me the doctors cannot explain what has happened. I assumed that the doctors did some investigations but haven't found anything that they are concerned about or they wouldn't have approved my uncle going home.

I am not sure how much eyesight has been restored but Mum said he could now read the labels on his medicine jars. Previously he had to use a strong magnifying glass to read his newspaper and found it difficult even with the magnifier.

Well, that's great then. I hope he's enjoying looking at pictures just seeing the world again.

here is an interesting story about my uncle.

About two or three years ago, when my aunt was still well enough to drive, my aunt drove into the city with my uncle in the car beside him. My aunt had to go into a shop and left my uncle sitting in the inlocked car.

As my aunt was coming out of the shop she saw a woman get into the car and drive off with my uncle still in the car. My aunt panicked and a passerby had to call the police for her. The police treated the matter very seriously - an elderly blind man had been abducted.

Meanwhile my uncle in the car managed to stay calm and talked quietly to the woman. The woman told him she needed to get to Launceston (more than 200 km away). My uncle talked the woman into letting him out of the car telling her that he couldn't identify her or which direction she was going because he was blind. The woman let him out and some schoolgirls helped him make contact with the police.

The police had a fair idea who had abducted him. Th woman concerned had a history of mental illlness. The matter never went to court because my uncle was unable to formally identify her. The car was recovered a few days later.

Wow - that sounds like a plot from Without A Trace or something!

Great news about your uncle though, I hope his eyesight stays better. What a wonderful surprise.

Tell him to be careful:

If he bumps his head again, his penis might start working again, too.

Didn't she leave fingerprints or other evidence? I'm sure the team at the Jeffersonian could have proved it was her.

I'm setting up a new clinic for the blind. I'll smack them in the head to restore their sight.

I'll have to do it scientificly and get a mechanism to hit them at a consistant force. I should really automate the whole thing and have some chairs on a track that move them from the reception area into the smacking room and then on to the recovery area.

In the recovery area we can test their eyes with some strobe lights and if they go into epileptic seizures, then we'll send them back to the treatment room.

I can probably automate the whole billing proceedure with credit cards swipes and brail instructions. The phone and reception area can have voice options, press 1 etc.

Once I get it running smoothly I'll probably never have to show up at the office!

These are great news ... but I'm puzzled ...
If your uncle felt a 'pop' in his head and his sight was regenerated ... the doctors had to have detected something was different.
Actually scratch that ... it may have been a very minor change in the nerves and cerebral cortex that registered in your uncles mind as a 'pop' but extremely hard to detect with present day measures.

It only goes to show we still know little about the brain given the fact that's what suffered the blow and regenerated his eyesight.

^ If they had a MRI of his brain before and after, they might find a difference, but it might well be microscopic.

Best thing I've read all week, very upbuilding.
