I Just Don't Get It

I could see a 6,7, 8 episode Year of Hell. Just call it year and then move on and let them remember. Idk why a "season" has to be a year. It's not like fiction doesn't take liberties with everything else.

If they did do a full season YoH it probably would have been like Enterprise season 3. Not every episode would directly related to the Krenim. They could have made it work. And it might have done for Voyager what S3 did for Enterprise.

Wasn't YoH was planned for to last a season until TBTB nixed it.

What's the source for that rumour? Did B & B comment on it at some point? One of the writers? It keeps coming up.

I seem to be one of the few people who doesn't think a season long "Year of a Hell" would have been that good anyway. I think people claim it would because we finally got to see Voyager having a hard time in the Delta quadrant (rather than the usual love boat cruise) in that two parter.

That kind of struggle is what should have been seen throughout the show anyway though
.

I agree with this. I enjoy VOY in small doses, but it certainly is not my favorite.

But, that all sad, I think a season long run of "Year of Hell" would have been interesting, if it allowed a build up to different consequences (Tuvok's, for instance).

Lot's of story potential there.

Quite frankly, a season long "Year of Hell" would've pissed me off and even possibly turned me off from watching more of the show.

^^

I'm curious as to why?

There is a lot of story potential, multiple character arcs that could be started and played out, and hinted out, and some mystery that could come along with it.

But, that's me. Personally, I think VOY was fine in small bits, but as an overall production and general premise, left much to be desired.

I felt like the episodic approach left room for more interest. When I watch the Xindi arc in Enterprise, it is less fresh, like watching the same story repeatedly. The same conflicts, the same language, it starts to hammer and maybe it is one reason I rewatch this series much less than Voy. I really do prefer an episodic approach, though Voy could have instituted more ongoing consistencies, like ship damage, character arcs like Paris/Torres, and such. Though epis like Course: Oblivion were callbacks to previous stories.

For what it's worth, Voy and Friends top my rewatch list. Why?
I think there's something to the "comfort" hypothesis.

(BTW, EVERYTHING'S NOT A "THEORY". EVOLUTION IS A THEORY. BIG BANG IS A THEORY. Plot points are hypotheses and posits, mkay writers?? And while we're on the subject, lack of emotional content does not qualify something as "logical"). :vulcan:

(Sorry, this lazy writing bugs me).

Voyager was a well produced, quality show with good stories, actors & set design. It has aged the best as an overall package, over all the modern-day Treks.

It's a very watchable show. Serialized shows are a commitment, and a lot of us don't have time to commit to a show like that- we just want an hour of escapism and that's good enough. I'm glad Voyager wasn't serialized, contrary to what others say, the producers made a good decision. I've got more important concerns to think about than goofy DS9 Bajoran religion / Cardassian Occupation/The Sisko nonsense. But that's me- I respect others might really dig that stuff. Different strokes for different folks.

It's fine to admit you enjoy Voyager the most, and not feel you have to tow the fan attitude of Voyager being crap. Because it's not. I think you need to admit to yourself your love of Voyaget! it's a continuation of TNG- had TNG continued, a lot of its episodes would have been like Voyagers. And that's a good thing.
I didn't much care for Voyager last time i seriously watched it. For example; Non-Sequitor is a perfect example of what many people dislike about the show. The premise is respectable for Star Trek, but the execution was just...sloppy. Far too many episodes suffered from lazy and sloppy writing, and many of the characters seemed bipolar from week to week.

If they did do a full season YoH it probably would have been like Enterprise season 3. Not every episode would directly related to the Krenim. They could have made it work. And it might have done for Voyager what S3 did for Enterprise.
S3 almost killed Enterprise. Maybe half the eps were watchable, the rest...not.

Basically, this.
