I just bought a Kindle and the first three Titan books...

Front lighting is fine. But it's not easy to find a book light that does not shine too much in one spot.
I was actually wondering why they didn't make them with an internal frontlight; you wouldn't have to worry about that, then. ;)

Amazon experimented with an internal frontlight, but decided to forego it because it used up too much battery power. They wanted users to have at least several days' worth of battery power before having to recharge.

And I think they made the right move for now. I can go 5 days with heavy reading. 7 days if I read a t night before bed for an hour or so.

Bah. That's what they make switches for.

^^Well, the idea behind the Kindle is to replicate the look and feel of paper books. So if you want to read it at night, do the same thing you'd do with a paper book. Turn on a lamp or get a book light.

^^^ Exactly! That's why I have no desire for a color screen or backlighting. Most of the printed books I read are in black and white, and they don't have backlit pages! :)

I wouldn't mind a future version that had color capability and larger page size -- you could read comics or magazines on it! Or at least get to see full-color covers for the books you downloaded.

That's the upgrade for the KINDLE-2 probably. We're breaking new scientific ground all the time and much of it can be said to be directly or indirectly related to ST :)

There is such a thing as too slavish a recreation. :)

I can go a lot longer then that with my 505. I can go longer then a week for sure.

As for lighting, itf you build in lighting, you reduce the amount of time the battery will run. Get a good book light and you'll be ok in the dark.

If you go over to read the following thread over at MobileRead, you can get an idea of a number of different book lights. I'm thinking of getting the bug light.

Until your battery gets used up for good, and then you have to send your 505 in to have the battery replaced, at a cost of $80. The Kindle's battery is user-replaceable at a cost of $20.

I'm sure there are pros and cons to each device, Jon. I'm glad you like yours, but this isn't a competition.
