I heard bad things about this complete series set

http://www.amazon.com/Star-Trek-Nex...sr=1-1&keywords=star+trek+the+next+generation

you can read them in that link

these are the first dvds release

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00005Y1NF...TF8&colid=3F004WNVGDDY5&coliid=I3SD3VA79BH5HW

some say this was the best but it looks like it takes alot of shelf space if I get all 7 seasons

does anyone have all and can tell me the ones to get

It's all the same discs, no matter what the packaging... but I would strongly advise against purchasing the DVDs, no matter how attractive the price may look. $168 might sound like a good price for all seven seasons, but consider what you'd be purchasing: two decade (and older) NTSC video dubs transferred to DVD. Frankly, they look terrible. It would be far, far better to buy the Blu-rays.

Season One is currently $45.99 at Amazon, but it dropped to as low as $31.49 just a few months ago. Seasons Two, Three, Four & Five were also $45.99 at that time. If you wait, I'm sure Season One will be around $31.49 again, and you can pick up each season as they come down to that price. The combined Season 1-7 pack will likely be the individual seasons shrink wrapped together and will probably be around $399.99 in December when Season Seven comes out, so there's no reason to wait. Just set aside some money and buy them as they come down to a price you can afford. :)

I second this. The picture quality of the DVD's is pretty bad.

And the DVD's don't have NEARLY the amount of Special Features that the Blu-Ray's have.
That and the Best Buy ones had exclusive Bonus Disks which is why I never bought the DVD's, because Best Buy had outrageous prices for them.

Though the Star Treks weren't nearly as bad as The X-Files dvd sets.
Here on Long Island, The X-Files were $199.99 per season.

I bought them Season by Season when they first came out, and they were just fine on my normal DVD player...

...but fairly recently, I discovered Blu Ray...my fellow posters are absolutely correct...wait for the 7 Season Blu Ray to come out...you will be glad you did...my Blu Ray player was less that $150 (gift) and it will play your other DVDs...
