I have a job interview!

Dude, good luck! I'm hoping you'll get it.
And don't worry about the commute, mine is between 70 and 90 minutes one way, you'll get used to it. =)

Wow that's great Flux. Good luck with the interview. I am sure you'll do great. I'd err on the side of caution for anything (i.e. overdress instead of underdress). Let us know how it goes.:techman:

Good luck Flux. You have to say which company it is after you get the job (I don't want to jinx it).

Good luck on the interview! I sent out resumes and such to places today and am hoping to hear from them soon. Hopefully I will. I've had job interviews(one this past week actually) and they went well, but not what I was looking for AT ALL. It was VERY deceitful so I'm watching out for those types online. Any health insurance company I'm saying a hell no to. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you though! Sounds promising. :)

Thanks guys. I'm all set for the interview, except for the Non Disclosure Agreement they want me to sign for the interview (never had to sign one of these for a job interview before). The problem is the last page is sort of confusing as to where I sign. It looks like this.

Name of Company, Inc

By:__________________
Name:
Title:

Agreed to and Accepted as of
the date first above written:

[ empty space here ]

By:________________________
Name:
My problem is..where do I sign? I'm not sure if I sign on the second By:_______ line or the Name:

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

I would suspect you print your name by the "Name:" and sign on the line. But that's a guess. But as long as your signature is on there somewhere, you should be fine.

Sign the bottom blank line, the one under the "agreed to..." clause, and print your name under it. After all, it's a non-disclosure agreement. So you have to agree to it for it to be valid. And that seems to be the spot to say so IMO.

The best part about an NDA is telling your friends that you can neither confirm nor deny anything they ask you about :p

I heard about a guy who showed up for an interview in a storm trooper costume

That did indeed happened, he was applying for an animation job at Epic. He did get the job, but the development side of things is different from the publishing/marketing side... if I had showed up for my interview in a suit I would have been pretty overdressed. I don't think it can ever hurt you, but in the games industry it generally isn't necessary to get all dressed up for an interview. At least on this side of things.

Yeah I figured if I was going in to interview for the dev team a suit or anything resembling one would be overkill. However, I am actually interviewing for a job with the marketing team I would be doing stuff like the company's product catalogs, marketing materials, packaging art, etc. It's a little more of a corporate setting, I think.

They did both. Emailed to set up a phone interview, then the phone interview set up the in-person interview...

...which was today. Overall I think it went well. The first person I talked to is the person who would be my boss if I do get the job. She seemed really excited to get someone on board, and used language that almost made me think I was going to get hired today (i.e. "where your office will be is between so-and-so and so-and-so's offices.") which got me pretty excited. She also mentioned that while it is a temp position starting out, she is looking for someone who wants to stay for the long term. I made it very clear that that person is me. I even told her I would relocate if it became a permanent thing. They still have more people to talk to, which is a bummer because any of those people could come in and blow me out of the water. So now I wait...which is going to make for a long couple of weeks. :(

Good luck Flux. Wish I would've visited this thread earlier because I have, for a time, served in a recruiting role with businesses including in this industry.

However, one warning, you did sign an NDA which could, in turn, include discussing even the fact that you have an interview with the firm. I can say from experience that there have been instances in the past where firms have looked for online postings related to their positions to see if those clauses have been breached. I saw a link to your portfolio in your signature and, if you gave them a link to it, they could potentially search for it on the internet. I just did a search for your link on Google and the 6th entry led me to Trek BBS, the 8th on Yahoo.

However he didn't mention even the company name let alone the names of the people involved or even what projects the job entails.

He's just talking in general so i believe he's safe.

^ I read over the NDA fast and thought he'd posted the company name but he didn't so he is probably (I'd say 51%) safe. However, I did have a case like this a few months ago where something similar happened - he was literally the perfect candidate - and I had to reject his application because he posted about the interview on his blog. No he didn't discuss anything specific either - but the company was pretty paranoid.
