I have this weird gut feeling the new Trek movie is going to be set no more than 50 yrs from present day.
This is why:
-Enterprise is being built on Earth, in what looks like it could be a contemporary shipyard
-Guy with goggles and a stick welder is welding hull plates of the Enterprise
-Area 51 rumors about the build site of the Enterprise (proved untrue, yet Orci is still dubious about location)
-Roberto Orci says this: Both the literal interpretation that we are putting the movie together, but also to convey the idea that this is something that this is something that could be coming soon. It is the idea that The Federation may exist may exist. The idea that the future is not nearly as far off as it was in the 60s.
To me this all adds up to a major change in the Trek timeline. Maybe JJ is going for the idea that maybe someday quite soon the human race could build a 'real' Enterprise.
Call me crazy but I wonder....Might not be a bad idea IMO if it turns out to be true.
