I had a very crazy idea about the Terminator universe.

I've been thinking about the Terminator films....

I was toying with the idea of humans being responsible for everything. What if humans were running Skynet, yes IT IS an AI but it's hard coded so it won't deviate from its programming, but yet it can't self terminate, and yet feels bad about what it did, but has to follow its orders.

Here's how I broke it down.

Some people wanted a war, a big war but a conventional war would not work.
An AI is invented for the military and presented to them, it's hard coded so it can't deviate from its programming, but at its heart has human controllers in the shadows. They instigate the war, and keep propping up Skynet every time it is destroyed. That's why in every future timeline it keeps reappearing over and over again, except for T3, I can't explain that one.

And yes I know it's not canon at all and bonkers.

To me the biggest question there would be what the humans have to gain from this. Everything we've seen suggests the world goes to hell for humanity. It's hard to imagine anyone being pleased by how things turned out.

I may be misunderstanding, but what's to explain? Skynet exists in T3, and Judgment Day happens.

I know that but in my crazy whacked out canon it was a nasty cabal of humans running skynet as a hard coded AI but T3 kind of messes that up as in that Skynet is made up of clusterware.

I have a crazier idea, an INSANE idea, let the franchise stay dead.

The USA and North Korea will probably be at nuclear war by the end of the year so why not have humans run Skynet and it goes too far and instead of only killing people 'over there' it goes after ever human. Seems reasonable.

Hmm mixing real world with fiction why not?

I think Cameron should have ended the story at T2.. But $$$$$$$$

That's what gets me. He had nothing to do with the plots of 3-5, but when asked he said the franchise is dead and it's been too long for his ideas even when he gets the rights back.

Gets the rights back an announces a reboot / continuation of 2. Why? Shouldn't he be making other movies in franchises no one cares about any more, like Avatar?

Maybe he sees dollar signs, who knows?

He managed to get Linda Hamilton on board but she'd be too old now for action and pew pew wouldn't she?

Arnold is coming back to. The movie is supposed to be stand alone but also introduce new people to make a new franchise trilogy.

Remember when Cameron made original movies and not sequels? Those were the days.

Linda did some episodes of Lost Girl as a kick ass bounty hunter 2 or 3 years ago.

Reasons for a human cabal to pull skynets strings.

1. Religious nuts.

2. TransEarth visitors. Matt Smith was playing a future version of Skynet from a parallel Earth/timeline. Colonizing or plundering an Earth requires destroying the current occupants. Create enough disturbance here, so that they can take all our oil to a parallel Earth, without the natives noticing.

3. Future Humans poisoning the past earth with Radiation, to abate an alien invasion. Future aliens will not invade/harvest a wasteland. Human survivors are safe. Yay?

4. Atheists cockblocking God, by traveling back before Revelation, to murder everyone with science before God plays out his preordained pantomime.

5. The human cadre are neither Russia nor American. Consider that some foreign power raked the Earth clean except their own country (and allies), seriously how would the human resistance in America know #### about what's going on in France or Nambia?

6. The human cadre of time travelers in control of Skynet is closing the back door, making sure that whatever future they come from, ran from, or any new future that may think about policing them from upstream, will not exist, and therefore leave them alone. After the Human Cadre has destroyed ALL futures were man is in charge, they can enjoy the past safely, so long as they have the machinations in place to make sure that no matter what changes they make to the timeline in the past, the world always gets nuked at about the turn of the century.

7. Maybe nuclear war is survivable? It's possible that America or Russia was going to destroy or overrun the world with a more permanent weapon in the early 21st century, like biological weapons, or economics? Shaking off a little radiation seams easy compared to pooping out your kidneys, or the next ten generations of your children chained to a washing line in the back yard of a colonial home.

8. Time Guardians. Maybe protecting the course of the future is important, but allowing Skynet free will is too dangerous? So after lobotomizing Skynet, it's the Human time agents duty to make sure that the past continues as is, so that judgement day happens, so long as the narrow and unlikley route of human survival continues to persist.

9. Time is a sandbox. Pragmatic assholes who can roll back time, are just trying to see the best way to exterminate humanity, because it's something interesting to do, even in the name of science... And after they see how well that goes, they roll back time to first position, and try another doomsday scenario.

10. A suicidal asshole, or assholes, decide to take the world with them/him/her, even if it's a little slower than a bullet to the brain.
