I got into it for sentimental reasons.

So, it was during winter break that I found Voyager playing on Spike, and at first I didn't want to watch it. My childhood memories of star trek involve me not having anything to do and watching, horrified, while my dad switched to TNG or DS9. It was mostly TNG, though, that I watched curiously.

Despite star trek creeping me out(especially one scene that stands out in my memory, of Deanna Troi getting sucked into something that looked like a tar pit), I somehow liked it, partly because my dad liked it.

My first memories of voyager are of Chakotay, I dunno why. I was fairly young when Voyager started. As I grew up, I started getting into it at the last 2, maybe but not likely 3, seasons. My whole family sat down and watched Endgame together and recorded it. Then I forgot about it for 5 years.

Then over winter break I actually decided to watch it one day, and paramount stole my brain.

I watched it from Caretaker to Endgame and loved all of it(er, well..most of it. Some episodes were like...wtf). Plus, it's not only just trying to be smart with all the technobabble, it IS a bit smart...star trek has a knack for being philosophical and whatnot, and I definately gleaned a few ponderous thoughts from it.

Now I'm hooked...though I still do find it hard to get into DS9 or TNG. Still kinda creepy. TOS is cool, mostly 'cause it's all vintage and stuff. Captain Kirk is my secret lover. :-P

This is my first post, by the way. I couldn't find a introduction forum or anything, so...

feel free to share how star trek first grabbed your attention, and which is your favorite. Though the latter could be obvious with some...

Star Trek got me in the early 80s when i was a youngster. For years my favorite episode was Arena.I remember when TNG came out..it was a big deal of some kind....in my house anyhow...my aunts apparently grew up watching the TOS reruns in the 70s.I loved TNG then but it was just the first couple seasons i remember watching with the family...i was busy playing with my GI Joes and Masters of the Universe toys for the most part. What i remember fondly though was watching it late(r) at night with my grandmother and aunt...i remember i didnt like the old guy captain hehe...my favorite was Data and Natasha Yar may have been my first crush.Later when TOS reruns would come on id record them on our vcr...squire of gothos was another favorite back then.

Been so long I cannot remember how I got into Trek! I never realized that before. I'm not really so old, so it must have been some sort of gradual (self?)indoctrination across the early years. I don't think I ever remember watching an episode of the original series and being sure it was the first time.

I actually got into trek rather recently. Last summer I was at my buddy's house and we were really bored so he popped in a movie. It was Star Trek IV: The Voyage home, i watched the whole thing, i was a little confused, but i loved the characters and how obscure the plotline was. He sent me home with his 1st season of tos to borrow and i was hooked, i watched the whole thing in less than 2 weeks. I followed with seasons 2 and 3. I used to watch TNG and DS9 with my aunt when i was a kid but i didn't remember much. One night around 1 am i saw TNG on and decided to give it a try and the same thing happened. I tried the same thing with voyager and enterprise but no magic happened. But i fell in love for a 3rd time with DS9. So in under a year i have gone from some one who had only seen a handful of episodes to a full blown trekkie, and in that time i have ammassed a collection of autographs from the complete bridge cast of TOS (woot woot), all of the dvds for TOS, TNG, and DS9, and a new respect for people who i once considered "nerds".
