I get to do a sleep study!

A quick check for thyroid problems--have the "moons" at the bases of your fingernails significantly shrunk or outright disappeared? I've read this happens, for some strange reason.

I don't think that's true. There may be brittle fingernails with hypothyroidism, but nothing about the 'moons.'

Here I am all wired up and nowhere to go. Watching some show on Discovery about Moonshiners with horribly thick accents. My body going through caffeine withdraw, almost fainted a few minutes ago but the nurse or whatever she is has been very helpful and nice. Sigh. Sleep room is actually pretty nice.

It went okay. I didn't get great sleep mostly from the discomfort of the bed and restriction of the wires. I don't even recall dreaming so who knows if I reached REM sleep. (Though it's possible I did and just don't recall the dreams.)

The doctor, tech, or whatever she was never had to come in to give me the CPAP device so I never showed signs of sleep apnea. I should hear the results of the test(s) in a couple of weeks.

If I'm not mistaken not remembering your dreams is just indicative of a deeper sleep. I almost never remember my dreams and when I do I tend to be sleeping more lightly. Of course I could be completely wrong.

Well, got some answers today.

The results of the study did show signs of some mild apnea, so I'm being asked to do a second one, this time while wearing the CPAP machine.

...

Yay.

If you're at all claustrophic (and if they'll let you), I'd recommend going with the nasal pillows on the CPAP. When I went for my study with the CPAP, they put a full facemask on me that sent me into a panic attack after about ten minutes. Good luck!

Also, if you end up with a CPAP, it's not that bad once you get adjusted to it (as others have said). I spent about 2-3 months feeling like I was actually sleeping worse with it on than I did without it (I also ended up gaining almost 20 pounds because I was too tired to excercise), but now I feel a lot better when I sleep with it than without.

Well, that's the presumption of what it was, not really sure exactly what happened. I've gone a long time without caffeine before without any problems other than maybe getting a little jittery as I come down from it.

If the answer is "yes" to "do you care about your health," stop drinking caffeine now if you're that addicted to it.

I'm glad caffeine doesn't affect me like that. I can have a cup of coffe right before bed and still sleep like a baby.

^I was like that in my 20's. The older I got, the more sensitive to caffeine I became. Had to quit drinking it years ago. :(
