i find STD unwatchable

It veers between awesome storytelling and thudding disappointment. It's not great. It's not terrible. It's just the newest Star Trek series and it offers some good along with more than a few helpings of "meh" or bad.

I find that to be the most fair assessment.

I always have to remind people that it's no different than any post-TOS Trek's first season, and actually in most cases it's vastly superior.

Or are all the people who like it just not observant enough to notice these things? I guess I do tend to appreciate things on a deeper level than most

Careful Doc, your modesty is showing.

Friendly advice—best not imply a whole whack of people are your intellectual inferiors simply for liking something you don’t. Especially when you’re new in town, so to speak.

Can’t please everyone.

I, and MANY others, quite enjoy the show and look forward to more.

C’est la vie.

Seconded. Now keep in mind that I'd rather get a STD than re-watch any STD episode so far, and my ex preemptively might have done the former for me, but there are aspects I don't dislike and can understand why others adore the show. I think it can be better, but it could have been so much worse.

I wouldn't call Discovery unwatchable - though after Lorca died it got into that territory for me. It was the enjoyment factor that was a challenge.

As a Trek fan I felt it my duty to watch, lol, and to share my insights :guffaw:

Love how the fanboys call it disco and people who cant stand it call it std hahaha.. the irony is, it is just like an STD someone caught at a cheesy disco.

I don't think there are a lot of Disco fanboys here, per se. I think there are a lot of people who recognize that Discovery has flaws but isn't the steaming load of shit a lot of people make it out to be. Again, you can choose not to watch it. And that would be fine with most of us. At the same time, please realize that most of us have not been waiting with baited breath to read your opinion about it.

That's not a criticism of your opinion. You are absolutely entitled to it. Its a criticism of the need to start the umpteenth thread about one individual's disdain for Discovery. Its exhausting.

It is better than TNG's first season, but then what season of Trek HASN'T been?

I actually think that DS9 S1 is worse. While TNG S1 is really bad...it's like the charmingly nostalgic side of bad...while DS9 S1 was nearly unwatchable just because it was woefully dull. I'd rather something be bad and interesting rather than just dreadfully dull.

And DS9 went on to become a favorite of mine.

But good lord, that first year was a slog. :wah:

But, in all fairness, it is a forum devoted to fans discussing the show...so even if some of us ARE fanboys...I think that's fairly excusable.

Abso-fraggin-lutely!

ETA: I'll even go so far to suggest, I'm perfectly okay with people who don't like the show. Honestly? That's fine. Being critical is okay. Having said that, I can't stand those who hate Discovery so much, they cannot and have not said even the slightest good thing about the show. If you can't say one positive thing about it? Well, then why do you even care? In that case, no, I personally don't give a crap about your opinion. (Then again, I'd probably say the same thing about someone who couldn't give one criticism about the show. I personally find enjoyment out of it. But it ain't perfect.)

I think they could've done a lot more with T'Kuvma than they did and Lorca deserved a better way to go.

I don't know what to say about the people who dislike (or hate) the show. All I can say is, if they're in America, they're dedicated. I'd never pay to watch a show I didn't like.

And for what? Just so they can have an opinion? If their mind is already made up anyway, and they know they're not going to change it, why put up the money just to confirm it?

I 100% agree with your critiques of the series. I would have, for one, liked to see T'Kuvma in the mirror universe, if anything. He was an interesting character that was so underutilized. And I hated Lorca's end.

As for the #haters? Honestly? Who said they ever paid for the show? I wouldn't put it past some to utilize, um, ulterior methods to see the show. Because it would seem, they just feel their overwhelming negativity needs to be heard. I don't know why. Some made the decision before a full episode even aired they would hate everything that came out of it.

I just can't relate.

I always use a few examples in this case: I really don't like Voyager. I don't go into the forums and deride people for their enjoyment of it. I stopped watching both The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones because both shows got way too depressing for me. But I don't go into every post about either suggesting how terrible they are. I'm probably a bigger Star Wars fan than I am a Star Trek fan and I'm involved in the community over at starwarsnewsnet's The Cantina. I think Rogue One is overrated. I don't go in there and say that in every thread. I respect that this is all just entertainment and everything has its fans. I live and let live. Why some people feel the need to make their loud negative opinions heard? In every. Fucking. Thread? I just don't get it.

The music was awesome. :)

Come on. You know it was.

You know what...I was listening to part of David Arnold's score for the original Stargate feature film last evening and thinking that the music for Discovery was most definitely not awesome. Or memorable.

Well............to be fair I think T'Kuvma exited earlier than they would have liked or planned due to some "problems".

And, we're done here. I let the opening post go even though you didn't have a question or premise for an actual back and forth discussion, instead just posting a complaint you could have posted in any one of a dozen review threads, but you at least put a little effort into your post. But this is just lazy and needlessly provocative. If you find the show unwatchable, no one is forcing you to watch. Closed.
