I Don't like Star Trek (spoilers)

Fleet Captain
Fleet Captain
I know I'm a minority on this but I can't help it. From the disgusting nokia product placement (in fact everything about that whole scene was crap) to the fact that Kirk looks about 15 years old, and then gets promoted from Cadet to Full Captain! (what do you think the 15-20 year veterans who are still lt commanders are going to feel about that?) Most of the actors were just awful (sulu, chekov, KIRK!) Spock was ok.... scotty and McCoy were good but that was it imo.

I just don't like where they went with it, As soon as abrahms started going on about making star trek "cool" I had my doubts, and boy was I right, from having bloody actors off home and away in the film, to the nokia tune i just found the whole thing a slap in the face.

anyway thats my 2 cents!

Seriously though, do you not feel like that? Star trek was MADE by the loyal fans, this movie was a cash in, for people who liked that transformers film not for us

I'm a big Trekkie and I was amazed at how much this film was made for us.

Homages and in-jokes literally every 2 minutes.

And other than that? I thought it was a fucking awesome movie. Felt fresh, bold and exciting. Can't wait for the sequel.

Ok, maybe next time you guys can have "CSI Star Trek" and the whole film can be set on a Mcdonalds delivery ship, starring the cast of days of our lives, then you will be happy rofl!

No that would be stupid. Much like your arguments.

You can say you don't like the movie and that's fine (whether or not you like the movie has no bearing on anyone's life), but with that statement you're reaching into Dayton3 and Captain Robert April territory.

Why are a lot of people who don't like the move literally saying: "it's a slap in the face"? How can it be a slap in the face? Watching a movie is passive entertainment; if you don't like it, you change the channel -- or in this case, leave the theater. It's not that hard.

I'm sorry you didn't like it. What do you want us to do about it?

So its ok for us to have 1000 threads of OMFG i love star trekkkkkkkkkkkkk Awesomnezzzzzzzzzz

but one person says they dont like it and its like up yours!

Of course not; I dislike it when people put words in my mouth like that. Whether someone likes or dislikes the movie has nothing to do with what I said.

But usually, someone tries to spark a discussion; it's the reason they post. They also ask questions, or ask how other people think about it. You've just given us your 2 cents and the only question I can discern in your opening post is a rhetorical one. So I'm wondering what, exactly, you expect us to do with that information. If you expect us to do anything with it. Hence, my question.

I heard nothing but high praise for it, so I actually went to see it at the theater (something I hardly ever do - maybe three times in last five years.)
Alas, I was for the most part horrified by it. I'm no serious trekkie, and I'm all for taking things at face value for the sake of entertainment, but this film was just too stupid. Just about everything in it was too appalling - every plot point was too ludicrous, every sciency device too absurd, the ant to elephant scale of opposing ships - that one "Romulan" mining vessel could decimate an entire Starfleet armada. What insane civilization would rely on one vulcan to save their planet without attempting a mass exodus in the face of extinction? No, there are far too many things wrong to attempt a list.
I do not blame the actors - I thought pretty much all of them did well with what they were given, except perhaps those portraying the Romulans. The sets and effects were mostly spectacular - it was definitely enjoyable to "look at", though I was sure I was gonna go deaf from the insanely loud volume (perhaps the theater's fault - that.)
In short, this movie was made for ten year olds - stupid ones at that (notwithstanding the totally unnecessary, though somewhat amusing, semi-sex scene.)
I have for some years now been appalled by how stupefyingly dumb BIG sci-fi has been getting, and this film offers not a glimmer of hope of that changing any time soon. Of all the possibilities for a good story - that THIS truly infantile piece of writing gets made - and uniformly PRAISED - may be the best proof yet of a terrible dark age descending upon us.

No, I don't feel like that. I loved it. I thought it was funny, well acted, for the most part well written and kept me engaged and entertained through three viewings now. I did not think it was perfect. Nor do I think it was devoid of the True Trek Spirit™. The opening 10 minutes was simply beautiful to watch and George Kirk was absolutely awesome :) The man seriously needs a fan club.

And while I'm at it, why the absolute hatred for Transformers on this board, anyway? It was fun. There's nothing wrong with enjoying a fun, summer movie - they don't all have to have a deep, heartfelt message in them. You'll never, ever convince me that every single bit of ST is full of deep, provocative thoughts explaining the true miraculous meaning of the universe.
