I do not like MCU films

^ A detail adding to that, I don't think the DC tv show and movies can be in the same universe simply because the WB is not just one uniform company but has several competing divisions, such as WB tv and WB movies. They are almost as unfriendly as Marvel and Fox were until recently. I don't think they can work together because of WB's business model.

Re: DC Films for Adults and Marvel films for Kiddies?

So Disney doesn't want to encourage people to kill themselves. How awful.

By that logic, Disney - by featuring murder - has already encouraged people to kill others.

Re: DC Films for Adults and Marvel films for Kiddies?

Is murder portrayed as a good thing in those movies?

"What if someone does something irksome, and I decide to remove his spine?"

"That's... that's actually murder, one of the worst crimes of all. Also illegal."

Is smoking portrayed as a good thing just because someone is smoking in a movie?

They do health endangering things and suffer no consequences, then yeah it's not portrayed as a bad thing.

Hell, MCU even managed to have a fairly subtle anti-alcohol message in GOTG with Drax drunk-dialing Ronan.

  • the forgettable Fantastic Four movies & the recent, colossal bomb of a reboot.
  • Elektra.
  • Daredevil.
  • The Punisher flops (2).
  • The Ghost Rider movies.
  • The Roger Corman Fantastic Four movie (which might be the worst comic adaptation of all time).
  • Ang Lee's terrible Hulk film.
  • The misguided Blade sequels.
...the list goes on and on.

...and don't get me started on the Garfield Spider-Man films.

First of all, Adam West's Batman was the best ;)

Secondly, I will take Garfield's Spider-Man over Macguire's any time.

Finally, Blade 2 was probably one of the more interesting aspects of that series. I do not understand the hate, beyond superficial reasons.

As to the MCU, seriously, it cannot all be taken as one lump sum. Every film has its own tone, its own style that can't be somehow taken all together. I enjoy Captain America: The First Avenger, while I do not enjoy Iron Man 2 or 3. I think Thor is actually pretty fun and Avengers is probably one of the best comic book movies that I have seen.

Also, Daredevil series. If taken with the MCU as a lump sum, Daredevil (and GotG for that matter) stick out like a sore thumb as far as tone and style.

I'm sure I will change no one's mind but treating the MCU as one big whole is really like trying to read all the Captain America comics and expecting uniformity. Over the years, things have changed.

I liked both Hulk movies. Lee's was a very different type of movie, and as a kid is was one of the first superhero movies I'd ever seen that actually tried to be a character study (it came out before SM2 and Batman Begins). Some stuff didn't work, buts it's still quiet different to every other superhero movie.

If we're counting Corman's movies as 'Marvel' films, does that mean we can consider Batman Forever/and Robin, Steel and Superman III and IV as 'DC' movies?

Wouldn't falling out of a buildings, floating in space and being shot be considered health endangering?

Yeah, and the story doesn't portray those things as very good either.

Re: DC Films for Adults and Marvel films for Kiddies?

DC President has said this about marvel and dc and wy they differ.

“The worlds of DC are very different. They’re steeped in realism, and they’re a little bit edgier than Marvel’s movies.”

How much do you believe that DC films are more mature and marvel films are for kiddies. I think this is true to an extent seeing how dc and marvel are approaching their films. dc is dark and serious and marvel is light hearted and kid friendly

What you consider "mature" and the DC pres considers "steeped in realism" I consider to be nothing more than emo crybaby. Give me fun comic movies over whiny, wrist slitting emo anyday.

Steeped in realism? An 'edge'? *Has flashback to the decade of watching Dawson's Creek with Kryptonite*

Yeah, but there are very rarely consequences for those things, so they are not all bad. I think that Colson's death was the closest thing to it, but even that ended up getting a pass.

There was cigar smoking in The Dark Knight and Iron Man.
...both by bad guys. :rommie:

So should these characters have ended up bedridden with terminal lung cancer at the end of each movie, to show the consequences?

Re: DC Films for Adults and Marvel films for Kiddies?

Where do you guys get the idea that the name includes the TV series too? They're in a separate universe, so I would assume they would need their own name separate from the movies. I like Berlantiverse since Greg Berlanti is one of the big connections, DCWUniverse isn't bad either, but if Supergirl does get incorporated into it then it would need a name isn't limited to just the CW. Not to mention the fact that the shows air on other channels in other countries.

For me, it just seemed like somebody from corporate trying to come up with a name different than Marvel.

It's ironic because, in fact, the term "extended universe" fits the Marvel model better (MCEU) because the television and movie programs are connected. DCCU would better fit that company because the plans seem to be to keep the cinematic and television universes separate.
I completely forgot about the name Arrowverse for the Arrow/Constantine/Flash/Legends of Tomorrow/(maybe someday) Supergirl universe. That's still my favorite since it shows respect to the show that launched the entire universe.

Okay...so now that we're getting promo shots of Doctor Strange there are now complaints that it's a knock-off of Batman Begins with Bruce being all scraggly while wandering around in Asia.

I'm guessing none of those people knew this is exactly how Strange looked in his origin?

Christopher Nolan is a visionary who is ripped-off by all those wannabe hacks that comprise the majority of Hollywood.

;)

I've seen comparisons of Batman Begins to the sections of The Shadow (1994) that take place in Asia. I bet hardly anyone here remembers that movie. ;)

I remember that movie. I saw it in the theatre when it came out.
