I did not like how Reginald Barclay was treated in “The Nth Degree”

I'd be curious to know how much monitoring of holodeck activity there really was. If you created something sick enough, would it know enough to report you to the ship's counselor? Or at least refuse instructions?
Well, Data did create a holodeck program simply to kill holographic Borgs.

Yeah, but how is that any different for him than Picard hunting down tommy gun gangsters?
Worf disembowels characters all the time, which is normal for him. Barkley gets massages from Beverly. I'm not seeing any kind of standard policing going on, unless the crew has reason to put you on their watch list.

The entire discussion board is pointless. Star Trek isn't real...

Some people who aren't interested in a thread, believe it or not, simply don't respond to it.

Believe me there are plenty that I walk away from but this time I failed my saving throw vs nonsense. I'll try harder next time so as to not offend you.

As a person who has in the past had similar social issues to Barcalay and later got past them. Some of it is on Barcalay.

Some people just don’t naturally gain the ability to read social nuances and give back the nuanced social signals people expect. Which leads to inadvertent rudeness, and when they start getting negative social feedback they don’t understand it can lead to combativeness and reclusivity. Particularly having difficulty telling the very nuanced distinctions between freindly and unfriendly teasing leads to inadvertent meanness and perception of things meant just to be playfully disarming as bullying.

Of course it’s be great if 100% of people were so insightful and empathic they could understand that a lack of expected social signals was a sign of a lacked skill set and not of being anti social, but you’re expecting people who are scrambling to figure out their place in the social world themselves to be instant social geniuses. People so understanding and insightful that they can figure that out just by interacting with you are a rare special breed. You can’t really blame the majority for having trouble with that.
