Yes, that's right...little did I know when I began my educational journey into the world of graphic design that in one of my final semesters that I would be not only designing but also fabricating...a ladies fashion purse.
Granted, this was not a specific assignment, but something I came up with on my own. The only guidelines of the assignment (in a class entitled Intro To Packaging) were to build some sort of container using readily available, low cost of free recycled materials. Basically, whatever we could find in our recycling bins or down at a junkyard. I keep our used soda cans so that when I have a decent amount I can take them to the salvage yard and collect nice little check. I figured I had plenty of material for *something* made out of the cans.
Long story short, somehow I came up with the idea to do a small cocktail purse, something a woman could put her cell phone, lipstick, boyfriend-remote-control-device, etc into when she goes out. I have no idea if anything like this would actually sell, but I thought it was a fun design exercise and definitely out of my "comfort zone" as far as design goes.
The purse is made out of cardboard from an old movie cardboard standup I had no use for, and the "skins* is from Coke and Cherry Coke cans. The lid stays closed with magnets hidden under the skin, and the strap, as you can tell, is made from the can pop top tabs.
Let me know what you think, ladies especially.
