I could use some help with these

Johnny7oak

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
OK:

So I started making ships a while back... the idea is to show a lineage for a starship... Yet, I have neither registry nor ship name.

What exactly is it you need help with? Names & registry, or something else?

names and registry, I guess....

also maybe if I should paint them gold or gray and paints to use...

I still want to add detail to the Nebula class...

Would it be wrong to just pick a name if I go with the Gold spray like in ST: first contact observation lounge?

Since this is your project, there's no wrong way to go about this. Whether you want to add names or not is really up to you, even if you do paint them gold. Personally, I'd paint them gray and add detail rather than just gold & done, but this is your project, do what makes you happy. I have limited experience with paint other than typical model kit paints, so I can't recommend anything specific there.

As for names, since you mentioned you want to show a lineage, I'm guessing it's one name across all these ships? If so, that's something you probably want to pick yourself, so that's it's significant to you.

For the registries, I can offer some ranges based on similar ships. From L to R:
1 - Looks similar to Sovereign & Luna classes, range should be ~ NCC-75XXX - NCC-80XXX
2 - Nebula class, NCC-60XXX - NCC-72XXX
3 - ???
4 - Similar to Miranda class. Range is all over the map here, but considering where it's placed here, I'd go with the lower end near NCC-18XX.
5 - ???
6 - Looks like a Daedalus class, NCC-17X
7 - ???, probably pre-Federation Earth Starfleet. ENT showed few registries, but mostly two letters and two numbers. Make something up?
8 - Sailing ship, likely doesn't have a number.

3 is Oberth, though the nacelles is kinda long for the class.

Thanks guys! I will paint them gray, then detail them with a brush... I am considering getting some pitch for the boat or maybe just wood stain. I also want to replace the sails with something besides the tissue paper.

Do I paint the letters on the ship? or could I print them out? Also... I kind of remember a clip of some star trek of a Daedalus class with "Horizon" on its front.

I think you can order (or print) decals that you can apply. Some of the more experienced model makers here (like Forbin) could give you a better idea of options there.

ok. Thanks guys!

I still haven't painted them yet... I've been experimenting with making rings. However, I have made some medium changes a bit. Working with plastic for comm. badges. Not manufacturing, but recycled materials. I basically have been making enlisted pips, and I had some dead batteries from my "TOS phaser" that made excellent chief/ensign pips when backed by jewelry pins. Tc. and thanks again.

I could not find the edit button... but here is a picture of

my pips and the rings I've been working on. As you can see they are kind of more of a home costume grade quality, but... I made up four sets incase I do get that role-play session with my "Last Unicorn" ST roleplay books. :)
