I could actually hear the thoughts of the crew in The Void :)

Given how every time VOY tried to do a "Species that show up more than once" storyline the reaction was always negative, they probably figured that there was no point.

I don't think that's it.

The Kazon show up for 2 years, the audience complains they show up too much. The Vidiians make sporadic appearances throughout the first 2 seasons, the audience complains they show up too much. "Year of Hell" is criticized because the idea that VOY would run into an alien species even for ONE year is too much. The Hirogen make a bunch of appearances in one season, then they make one final one in S7 and everyone complains about that final appearance.

If they HAD done what you suggested then the reaction would've been "They showed up too much".

Well... I guess you're right. :wtf:

Why would anyone listen to a woman who not only found a way out of the Void, but managed to bring other ships with her during the escape, and helped an indigenous species along the way?

Meh, writer's fiat. Janeway being right because the writers decide she's right does not make her a good captain. The Void was a great idea for an episode, but Janeway was way too much of a goody two-shoes. You don't survive in a den of thieves very long by being a goody two-shoes.

Kelthaz you get the prize for the stupidest thing I've ever read.

Writer's fiat... I get it. Everything Janeway did that was awesome was only Writer's fait and it doesn't make her a good captain... I got NEWS for you... THE WHOLE TREK FRANCHISE IS WRITTEN!!!! EVERY CAPTAIN WAS WRITTEN!!!! IT'S CALLED A SCRIPT!!!!

I would like to also point out that you completely missed the point to this episode. Maybe you didn't but it seems as though you did... because you've obviously missed something.

Janeway stuck to her principals she beleives in the Federation and what it stands for, hence the CAPTAIN thing. It has nothing to do with being a "goody two shoes" she was not about to turn to violence and thievery it isn't the Starfleet way.

The Void IS the perfect example of why Janeway is a great captain (IMO the best). I think that this Ep. was very realistic... Instead of fighting one another combine your resources and work together to change your situation... What other historical situation was based on the same principals? Any?

As for th OP... The crew was doubtful at first, also realistic don't you think? However the crew of Voyager, Starfleet officers, are very fond of their captain and they trust her. In the end I am sure they were proud of her and what they all accomplished.

My only rules about bringing back or not past storylines or enemy is whether or not you have a great **original** story for it. If the writers are inspired enough to do a Vidian episode, I say go for it. If they are not inspired, don't go for it. I love the episodes when the doctor meet and fall in love with the Vidian female. There was a great story to tell.

I thought one of the main complaints about Janeway was that she was a horrible tyrant who ate babies (where do you think that Borg baby went?!) and didn't stick close enough to the PD throughout the latter half of the show. Here she does something arguably pretty good, and she's called out for not becoming a space pirate and sticking too close to Starfleet morals? Lady can't win.

And yes, as vas2009 said, all of Star Trek is scripted. Not sure why this is some kind of exception. Aren't they all good because the writers make 'em that way?

Anyway, I know, I know, different opinions for different people; I just find this argument a bit odd.

And McDuff, I agree. I know the audience had a negative reaction to the Kazon, but I don't recall negative reactions to the Viidians or Hirogen - other than that 2 years is a pretty darn long time to see a race that isn't nomadic. The Hirogen got a pass since they're wandering hunters. And the Borg are freaking huge - I think people just didn't like them because they were already in TNG quite a bit and their stories weren't terribly fresh post-Scorpion. Unavoidable, methinks, since the DQ is their home space, but I think that's where the audience was coming from.

If there's a good reason for a race to re-appear, I don't think the audience would take it poorly. And in the case of The Void, Voyager's allies would be traveling with them, which makes perfect sense as to why they'd be around for the last few episodes or so.

It made sense to me why they'd keep showing up. The Feds are supposed to be a medium-sized power in the Trekverse and their space is spread out over 8000 LY. If the Kazon are low end than their space should be about 2-3,000 LY and the Vidiians maybe 5,000 LY. Meaning they should've kept showing up for MORE than they did.

Maybe they just needed to spoonfeed the audience this.

I mean, in Farscape no one complained that the Peacekeepers and Scarrans kept showing up the entire show.

^I'd say the Viidians should be more widespread than Humans are since they have been warp capable much longer, from Chakotay's implication in Fury.

So in other words it actually made LESS sense for them to show up as LITTLE as they did.

The initial post has to be about "Night" not about "The Void."

That said, I love "The Void." It was Janeway at her best.

I loved the Vidiian episodes, but not so much the Hirogens (and not because they were a recurring race). There is no rule that states that there must be a new race every episode.

hehe - Kelthaz seems to have a problem distinguishing between fantasy and reality. Star Trek is fantasy!

"Oh know not this shit again"

"Janeway wants to kill herself ,and take everyone with her again."

"So were just going to try an play nice with the killers huh"

Aunt Kate, I just assumed it was about "The Void" because of the "again" stuff, and because IIRC in "Night", Janeway never seemed like she was coddling the "killers" or that she was going to take her crew with her during her heroic "suicide". :vulcan:

Of course, I could be wayyyy off base. :wtf:

Night was set a month into Janeways "mental decline".

When the "crazy" lasts for a month you don't have to ask much more than is she more crazier today than she was yesterday to realize that we're not talking about black and white crazy but shades of crazy.

Imagine your spouse looked hirself in the bathroom for a month rather than go to work?

How many weeks do you wait before you start squeezing food under the door?
