I could actually hear the thoughts of the crew in The Void :)

John Vasiliou

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
"Oh know not this shit again"

"Janeway wants to kill herself ,and take everyone with her again."

"So were just going to try an play nice with the killers huh"

Well you get the picture.

It's amazing how they put up with this woman all these years ,and didn't just drop her off on the first uninhabited planet they saw.

Can you imagine if a world leader had this style of leadership.

If you could hear my thoughts, they'd probably be something along the lines of:

"Huh?"

Well... I guess you're right. :wtf:

Why would anyone listen to a woman who not only found a way out of the Void, but managed to bring other ships with her during the escape, and helped an indigenous species along the way?

Couldn't agree more JR - a world leader who could:
find a way help and guide others
gather, lead and guide others others out of a seemingly hopeless situation
aid an indigenous species in a positive constructive manner

Wow - I don't think our world has seen one of those yet - but the 24th Century has!!

One of my top favorite episode.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT WHEN PEOPLE SUCCEED WITH THE RIGHT DECISIONS.

All the shady killers and thieves were left...right where they belong. JANEWAY PROVED that cooperation succeeds and infighting only serves to bring us all down.

That's why JANEWAY is the best Captain in Star Fleet.

Wait, I'm still not clear on if we're talking about The Void (the episode) or Night, in which they traveled in "the void." (dang it, writers, you couldn't have called the two starless places something different?!) :)

I first thought that the OP was talking about Night, what with the reference to suicide, but the next line makes it sound like The Void.

Either way, Janeway did not:

1) Play nice with the killers in The Void - she pretty much told that dude in Engineering to take his tech, shove it where the sun don't shine, and get off her ship

2) Include anyone else but herself on her proposed "suicide mission" in Night - which was admittedly poorly thought-out, but she was mostly hunting for absolution at the time anyway

I really like Night. Considering the events of Caretaker, I think Janeway really did need to really sit and think about their circumstances a bit. It also made a lot of sense following on the heels of Season 4, what with their first contact with home and the events of Scorpion and Hope and Fear.

The Void was okay, but it really should have been a two-parter or more, considering the scope. Actually, Night would have been a good two-parter as well (I believe it originally was going to be a two-parter).

There was a Russian on Kirks bridge and a Klingon on Picards bridge.

Blessed be the peacemaker.

That's what starfleet is about.

Building communities.

This was one of Janeways better episodes where she didn't come off as an idiot, an imperialist or a maniac.

Well it worked out for her in the end.

But what if it didn't?

It then becomes a them ,or me situation after awhile.

The human instinct for survival would have to kick in sometime right?

Kirk in Requiem for Methuselah asked nicely for Ryetalyn from Flint ,but when he saw that he wasn't getting anywhere with him he was quite willing to take it by force.

And I don't know if this was intentional ,or not but the expressions on the crew's face just looked perplexed when Janeway started talking about the alliance thing.

Chakotay and the Tuvok had been advising piracy.

That's one small step towards eating all the other poor bastards trapped in the void.

So... so it's bad they didn't turn to outright piracy?

We can debate Equinox and Tuvix into the ground, but this has to be the first time The Void has come up as a bad example. First time for everything I guess :)

Anyway, it usually doesn't work out for Voyager and they're stuck running away with their tail between their legs. See Alliances. Or Scorpion. It was nice to see things work out for once.

I try to keep it interesting. :)

Voyager did better single episodes than two parters...

Meh, writer's fiat. Janeway being right because the writers decide she's right does not make her a good captain. The Void was a great idea for an episode, but Janeway was way too much of a goody two-shoes. You don't survive in a den of thieves very long by being a goody two-shoes.

I love the episode "The void". I love the situation they were in and how they had to create a mini-federation and manage a micro galaxy (with friendly species, enemies, need for resources, self-interest, survival, etc).

I think they should have built on it.

Com'on thing about it...
It's the Borg Sector...how many species are flee the area because the Tazmania devil of the Quadrant is eating everything in sight?

I think the episode had just the right pacing. Stretching the story too much would have diluted the product. The pacing was perfect and the story right to the point about the challenges and how they faced them.

Negative: I mean built on the episode not add to it. I mean other episodes should have continued the little Federation that she had created...it would have allowed more characters like DS9 and a direction of progress and sucess for the last two seasons.

Given how every time VOY tried to do a "Species that show up more than once" storyline the reaction was always negative, they probably figured that there was no point.

I thought folks liked the Hirogen and those cute little poop aliens without names. I always thought the Borg were 80s-tastic anyway, so having them as recurring aliens never bothered me either. They were never "scary" to start with. Just badass, and that never really changed. :)

I would have been cool with a few of the allies sticking around longer, possibly until the ending. Perhaps they could have been helpful in getting everyone home or holding a secret to new tech or something.

And, just think - a whole raftload of new potential love interests for our crew :)

I don't think that's it.

That's the ticket!
