I Can't Come To Terms With It...

What worried me is Matt Smith seemed to be playing David Tennant playing the doctor. I'll reserve judgement till I see the next series but that last scene dismayed me a bit.

I wouldn't read too much into that, since I thought Tennant was channeling some Eccleston in his scene at the end of Parting of the Ways.

Honestly, if it were me, I'd quite intentionally write a new Doctor as if he were his predecessor for the first episode or so, and let his new mannerisms develop a bit more gradually, both to ease the audience's transition, and because it doesn't really make sense to me that the man would drop all of his habits instantly, even if they no longer suited him. The deleted scene from the Christmas Invasion where the Doctor tries saying "Fantastic!" and then complains that it doesn't feel right anymore is exactly the sort of thing I'm talking about.

I think the implication is that a lot of the superficial character traits -- preferred exclamations of excitement, etc. -- are the product of the brain being re-wired a bit every time he regenerates -- hence the nearly instant superficial personality changes.

Is anyone else having major withdrawals over David Tennant leaving DW?

I've even put up a poster of him in my kitchen 'in memory'! (The boys in my house ARE NOT impressed - there's even talk of a hot female poster counter attack).

Apart from the fact he is simply 'the best' doctor, I think this is the first time I've ever seen a doctor not want to leave :(

I just can't say goodbye :wah:

I felt the same way about Eccleston, up to the point Tennant said "New teeth - that's weird".

I felt the same way about Tennant until Smith kissed his knee.

It's the way Doctor Who works. I've been a fan for 25 years. I'm used to it.

I've been watching Doctor Who since 1980 when it was on my local PBS station and every couple of months the donation drives would interrupt the parts of the story.

At the time the station was showing Jon Pertwee stories and I just thought The Doctor got younger since Pertwee and Tom Baker both had curly hair. I guess I went thru what the original poster is going thru when Tom Baker left and Peter Davison took over but by the second story the 5th Doctor grew on me and the 7th Doctor was my favorite, I loved the mystery that was created surrounding the Doctor's past during his time.

I'm fairly certain a year from now Matt Smith will be doing fine.

Yeah, I'm sorry to see him go. I'd be somewhat less sorry if what's coming up didn't look so plastic and dull.

I just finished "End of Time" parts 1&2 about an hour ago. He was my favorite Doctor and as much as I love watching new Who I was kinda dreading it. Bummed now, really didn't want him to go and not overly impressed by Smith. Now before I get the "we haven't seen enough of him" responce I may be being to harsh as he just replaced MY doctor, so I will have to wait and see in the new season.
