I Can't Come To Terms With It...

^Well he was, and it was clearly intentional. He's just regenerated so his personality should still be in flux. It made perfect sense for him to be channeling Tennant a bit. I imagine his own personality will be different, but it'll take an episode of so before we can really see what 11 is like.

I'd probably be more upset about Tennant's departure if 1) Ten's regeneration hadn't taken so absurdly long
And then the whole exploding everything completely ruined and undermined whatever emotional content there was.

What worried me is Matt Smith seemed to be playing David Tennant playing the doctor. I'll reserve judgement till I see the next series but that last seen dismayed me a bit.
Yeah, I kinda get the feeling that they're going to be too alike. They even look kinda similar in a 'scrawny guy with crazy hair' kind of a way. I think they missed a trick by not getting David Morrissey.

Sigh, why can't people wait until we actually see Smith's Doctor in action before judging him?

Because it's fun to discuss and speculate? But you're right, let's not talk about anything to do with the new series until it's finished airing.

No but speculating that Smith will be like Tennant because they both have mad hair and down to 20 seconds of Smith post regeneration seems a trifle premature.

Blame Moffat for that one. He wanted to start with the TARDIS destroyed.
I quite like the idea of a new TARDIS and I like it's new look. I would have preferred it to have not been the result of that totally stupid regeneration special effect.

In what way is the regeneration special effect "totally stupid" and how could it be made less stupid?

It's the visual equivalent of the noise made by the Hypnotoad (come to think of it, it kinda sounds like the Hypnotoad...).
The Hypnotoad sound is monotone, oversaturated and aggressive and it goes on and on. The regeneration effect is bright, sudden and chaotic and it lasts for a couple of seconds. I'm sure you can find a better analogy.

And anyway, that doesn't tell me why it's "totally stupid" and how it can be improved.

Personally, I would have preferred that the TARDIS stay the way it's been. The TARDIS set is amazing, and the organic look is lovely and makes the TARDIS seem far more impressive and mysterious -- magical, really -- than yet another metallic-looking spaceship interior.

Problem is watching it on TEOT on Blu-Ray does show up that the set wasn't made to stand up to HD scrutiny. The pillars look like painted styrofoam and the walls like plastic. (Which they are, obviously.)

Well Tennant could always make a guest appearance as Doctor 10.5, And no, it does not have to have Rose. The plot could be that 10.5 felt lost not being able to travel (as he had no Tardis) and found a way to get to to the our universe, perhaps knowing where another Tardis may have been found (hard to believe they were all on Galifry when it fell)..something like that.

For me, I'm just not used to this type of show where the main character gets replaced after so many years. Eccleston wasn't around long enough for me to get attached to him, but Tennant's Doctor has had some really memorable times. It's bizarre to think that the show is continuing with a different main character.

Maybe it's the fact David is a bloody gorgeous specimen of a man where as the others aren't, the best you could call some of them is "fugly" :alienblush:
Amen to that! :techman:

No, no, a thousand times no! Can we just leave Pete's World sealed off forever? Please? (Unless he comes back as the Valeyard and even then that's kinda iffy for me.)

Fair enough -- I just hope that the new set they build to stand up to HD standards keeps the idea of looking like organic technology and doesn't go back to the metallic look of TOS.
