I can't believe she didn't complain about Geordie

You know which episode I mean

One challenging situation and technical collaboration is apparently enough to make you the best of friends

It was the 1990's television. Stalking wasn't as well known or well understood as it is today.

Was it worse than what Barclay was doing on the holodeck, or the same?

Come DS9 and Quark was trying to illegally scan Kira for a client's illicit holosuite program. And although played for laughs, at least the ick was acknowledged.

There's a scene in the infamous Enterprise finale, when Riker kisses a paused T'Pol on the cheek and... either there are going to need to be some very complicated laws about these things, or the tech is a total free for all in the 24th century and everything done in there considered "harmless fun"

Definitely worse IMO.

While Geordi's otherwise professional simulation** generated some... questionable... content from his basic prompt, that wasn't his intention whereas Barclay's problematic misadventures were entirely intentional.

** Leah admits that that was her initial thought before she viewed the recorded simulation.

You seem to have a penchant for starting threads and being intentionally vague and not really posting anything of substance. Just an observation.

And it's "Geordi." If you're going to start a vague thread, at least get the guy's name right.

Was it stalking? It was weird, whatever it was. Or it became weird, because it started out professional enough. I just couldn't believe the lack of consequence. The 21st century has really messed with my expectations.

I love how AI is basically at the point now where we can do this for real, though that's probably a separate conversation.

...I believe there are multiple threads on this subject...

The discussion never ends well.

But apparently the vast majority of forum members think Geordie was simply misunderstood, and those who talk about cyberstalking and galighting and him acting like a creep are exaggerating, when it's clear he's actually the victim of a shrew.

And all these discussions repeatedly get Geordi's name incorrect.

Both acted unprofessionally. Geordi was wrong; Leah was wrong. Assumptions were made, and drama ensues.

It's all very evolved
Uh? What exactly did Leah do wrong? Was she a little rough with Geordi? At least she was honest. Was that remotely comparable to Geordi, who lied to her the entire episode?

Per my original statement, not even complaining to Picard or somethin
It's just unthinkable

Oh hey so you have a hologram of me to hug and kiss and play with thats cool and totally not weird I was angry for a hot minute but I'm over it now

I don't know if you remember that Geordi invited her to his cabin for a romantic dinner under the pretext of a work meeting (a real ambush) and in the end he swore to her that he was only looking for her "friendship". When at best his intentions were romantic. Or at least to sleep with her.

And I will not be silenced on this most critical of issues
What's the critical issue that needs addressing? I thought you were discussing Geordi and Leah from 1991 and your entire post was "I can't believe she didn't complain about Geordie." Eight words.

She resolved her concerns with him, so probably didn't need to complain. Not much more to say.

Yeah his whole attempt was a slow motion train wreck

I can't believe the writers gave him a happy ending with her fml

Oh this topic again.

Geordi was catfished by a chatbot because after 300 years AI will still make shit up unprompted.

Leah should not have assumed he had sex with the hologram and had no basis for her assumption her image was conjured up just for gratification (unlike Barclay's shenans).

Geordi somehow forgot how to tell reality from fiction and even thought Leah would remember their collaboration. This is an uncharacteristically dumb turn that just served to create awkwardness and he got informal very quickly. Not creepy but not clever. Leah came there with hostility under false pretenses.

They were both wrong. Both dumb. But no creepy or stalkery behaviour was done. Honesty from both of them would have solved everything but the episode would have had no drama.

Of course this argument will just go round in circles, no one will find any common ground then we'll forget it exists until a new thread comes along. And the cycle begins anew.

Assumed.

Geordi was far more wrong but Leah assumed he was Barclay levels.
Leah was completely justified in assuming that, by the time she saw the simulation Geordi had been hitting on her since she stepped out of the transporter culminating in him planning a romantic dinner in his quarters where she let him down gently.
At that point there really was no reason for her to give him the benefit of the doubt when the hologram Leah talked about "touching engines", he had made it very clear he was interested in a relationship.

They were both wrong. Both dumb.
The problem with the "they're both wrong" interpretation is that at the end of the episode, the only one forced to apologize by the (male) writers is Leah. Geordi NEVER admits to having behaved less than appropriately. He lies to her when she asks about the hologram, telling her he was only seeking her friendship. But narratively, he's clearly portrayed as the hag's victim.

If it were true that on some ethical scale they are on the same level, his behavior is worse simply because he refuses to apologize or admit his mistakes.
