I bought a Nintendo DS Lite. Questions for other DS owners.

I just bought a black DS lite and a Donkey Kong skin and it looks freaking sweet.

I had some questions to those people here who own the sytem.

1) How do you turn down the brightness? There seems to be nothing about this in the book. I don't want to recharge every 3 hours.
2) If I play the DS alot at home is it better to leave the AC adaptor plugged into the wall socket while playing or it i better to play without the adaptor?
3) What are some of the best DS games or the DS games that I have to get ASAP?

Don't worry about it. The thing sips power like a humming-bird. You can play for hours...I'm not even sure how long it lasts since I usually go for days between charges.

I THINK you can lower the brightness in the system settings, but I'd suggest trying it for awhile before you worry about it. You may find that neither of these are issues that you need to worry about.

They sure aren't for me.

New Super Mario Brothers (Find a friend - 2 player challenge rules!)
Mario Kart
Brain Age (Either 1 or 2, doesn't matter)

I can tell you that running it off the adapter is generally bad, as it can run down the battery.

I always recommend the Phoenix Wright series to people. They're really fun games that harken back to the age of the point and click adventure games. Certainly check them ut.

That's correct, but I'd disagree with ignoring it. The DS on its maximum brightness is REALLY bright... I usually have it on the setting below that. Not for power reasons, I just think it looks better. Best to find the setting that looks the best to you.

One thing all DS owners need is a

R-4 revolution. even if you aren't a pirate it is great for homebrew and media browsing.

You can change the brightness settings with the lightbulb image on the lower left hand corner of the main screen. There are four settings, I usually go with the second.

I agree, the Phoenix Wright series is a ton of fun. Also if you're into adventure games I would recommend Hotel Dusk, it's a serious mystery adventure game, and easily one of my favorite DS games.

Thanks! I wonder why they didn't put that in the manual?

It's generally best to keep the battery "exercised" by letting it run down and recharging it.

42 All Time Classics!!!! (I think it might have a different name in the US, though)

Isn't it on page 10/11 of the manual, under "System Setup"?

Besides the games already mentioned in this thread, I'd suggest Kirby Power Paintbrush and Zelda Phantom Hourglass.

I totally forgot about that (and yeah you're right it's called Clubhouse Games in the US). My brother has it and we used to play the multiplayer all the time, darts and bowling were our favorites.

I also just bought a DS a couple months ago.

Mario Kart is the best!
Zelda Phantom Hourglass was great.
I liked playing Sim City alot once but then it got old.
Mario Party is fun if you like the other Mario Parties and you have someone to play with on the remote link.
Contra4 I hated it's just too damn hard, but I understand that's how the old game was.
New Super Mario Bros was alright if you want to just play the orig Mario with better graphics.

I'll soon be playing Final Fantasy 3 and Advance Wars Days of Ruin and Mario64, got them but haven't played them yet. I'm also looking after FF12 Revenant Wings as I loved the orig 12. And FFIV comes out on July 22nd! :D

Just got mine today and I already changed the brightness setting, power the DS up without the game inserted so you get to the main menu area. Theres a little bulb icon, just tap that and it changes to one of the 4 settings, find the one you like and stick with it. :)

So far I've only played a couple of games but Sonic Rush has been pretty good so far, already a quarter of the way through it.

Games I'd recommend:

Picross DS
Brain Age 2
Super Mario DS
Yoshi's Island DS
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Those are my favorite games so far. You don't really need to keep the system plugged in while you play, it will last for days before needing a charge. It does last less on the brightest setting, but certainly more than 3 hours.

Brightest, about 8 and on lowest around 18. Started playing Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games today, great game, easy to play and saves regularly, plenty of different skill levels to the games.

Just got a DS as well. My first game was Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, then Brain Age 2, Lego Indiana Jones, Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, and Star Trek: Tactical Assault.

I plan to get these in the future, perhaps they could help your decision:
Guitar Hero: On Tour
New Super Mario Bros.
Drawn to Life
Pac Pix
Lego Batman
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
Lumenous
Iron Man
The Incredible Hulk
Star Wars: The Clone Wars
Tecmo Bowl Kick-off
Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Geometry Wars
Metroid Prime Hunters

Not all at once, though. THose are just on my wish list.
