Its time to get a charcoal grill. Much better than a gas grill. Gas grills are nothing more than outdoor ovens. Charcoal grills give the food a beter taste. Also nowadays you dont even have to use lighter fluid.
Don't use that "no lighter fluid needed" stuff unless you like the taste of chemicals. If you want to go the charcoal way, use natural charcoal chunks and start them in a coal chimney (easy to find in the bbq section of department stores).
Stuff some newspapers doused with a little vegetable oil into the bottom of the chimney and pour the coals on top. Light the paper and wait for the coals to start burning and glowing, then pour them onto your cooker and off you go. Takes about 20 minutes. (For God's sake, make sure the chimney is on a non-flammable surface.)
On topic, years ago, we had a tempermental propane grill that I had to start with a long-tipped lighter. It was a very good grill, but for some reason, no igniter I'd buy would work more than a couple times on it before conking out, so I gave up on them. I was used to lighting it with the lighter and never had a problem.
One evening when she was home alone, my wife decided she wanted to grill her supper. She left the propane on too long before igniting a burner with the lighter. Long story short, she singed her armhairs; when I got home I got a lecture on taking care of things (it's ALWAYS my fault); we got a new grill the next day; and she's had NOTHING to do with gas grills ever since.
