Hey guys. I'm nearing the end of my work on Distant Kingdoms for Federation Commander, and I wanted to post up one of the last ships I've been working on for it.
This is the Hydran Pegasus-class, an oddball among the Hydran fleet. Before the fall of the Hydran homeworld, the Pegasus was designed as a large multi-purpose police and anti-piracy vessel. It was not really intended for heavy combat and had a great deal of cargo space for a variety of missions. When the Klingons and Lyrans invaded and captured Hydrax, pushing the remnants of the Hydran race back to the Old Colonies, the remaining ships of this model found themselves being put into more dangerous and vital missions due to the Hydrans' lack of resources. Eventually, the Hydrans retook their capital and the Pegasus design continued to endure, finding itself adapted and rebuilt into a number of special mission variants, all of which it performed well. When the Hydrans eventually adopted the use of fast patrol ships, they found the Pegasus was an ideal design for a tender, as its large, broad wings allowed plenty of space for mounting the mech links where the gunboats would dock.
