Humor would of made Nemesis better.

I think Nemesis was a pretty good movie. Sure it had its flaws, but I think one thing it could of done better is that it could of added more humor.

Just check out these two examples of Nemesis clips that were changed around to make the movie have more humor. :D

Trek Clip01

Trek Clip02

Let me know what you think.

^ Gotta love Groucho!

I don't know if humor would have worked. They tried some humor in Insurrection (remember the floation device, firm boobs, I haven't seen a bald man) and it fell flat.

I think this whole post is a joke, you really should have clicked on the links :)

Excellent work man :D

Actually, the relative lack of lame Trek movie humor is one of the only positive attributes this film has.

could've = could have
"could of" doesn't mean anything

^They will in about fifty years. That's how language evolves--today's babarism is tomorrow's standard.

But yeah, that bugged me, too. The clips are still funny, though.

It's how English became vogue. At one point it's the uncouth gurglings of some minor Germanic tribes, and next thing you know it's bigger than Latin.

I thought the bit in the movie where Worf groans 'Irving Berlin' was funny. That's about it, though - none of the other 'funny' lines were funny.

Re: Humor would've made Nemesis better.

^ And given the events of Apocalypse Rising, the idea that Worf can't take his alcohol is a bit stupidly out of character. That scene would have worked for LaForge, but their seems to be a quota on making Worf look like an idiot in TNG movies. ('Assimilate this' being all the more painful for the brilliant movie it's found in)

I found it quite amusing, though, that in Nemesis he immediately identifies it as Irving Berlin, but in Insurrection he has no idea who Gilbert & Sullivan were. :)

I never thought about that! But I do have to admit, I was able to get a chuckle out of the Gilbert & Sullivan joke!

Re: Humor would've made Nemesis better.

The attempts at humor during the wedding reception and on the Enterprise shortly thereafter were painful. I don't think I could have stomached any more attempts.

Trek typically doesn't do humor very well. It's usually silly or cheesy. Just look at the most of the humor in the other TNG films.

Perhaps... perhaps not. Slang usage and grammatical constructions come and go, especially in a place as fluid as the net. The 've/of confusion is because people write what they hear, not thinking about the words they're using.

Literally means figuratively to a lot of people, and basically means... nothing, because it's become a way of saying "well". :)

Re: Humor would've made Nemesis better.

Indeed. 'I was literally hanging by a thread' is now a meaningless expression of speech.

Here's another one: 'Officious' originally carried a positive connotation of being a hard worker.

Well, those clips were funnier than anything in the real movie...

Some idiot linguist wrote an article in Slate defending the sub-literate use of "literally" and cited James Joyce as a great writer who used it "incorrectly," thus providing legitimizing precedent. What she failed to note was that when Joyce did it, in Ulysses, he was deliberately and ironically writing in the voice of a somewhat ignorant young lady who would make such a mistake. Context--like the readiness--is all.

I'm glad a good amount of you enjoyed these clips. Of course i dont want Trek to really be like these clips, but I added these as a fun thing to watch.

As far as real humor in trek, I really enjoyed Data in Star Trek Generations. I thought he was pretty funny in that movie.. "Life forms, where are you? (then clicks on buttons to make noises"

Between your dumb Riker voice, your tough guy Geordi ("No it wasn't"), your Picard who sounds like the hideous love-child of Arnold Swarzenegger and Sean Connery and the women ("mmmm-hmmmm"), these things always give my yuks. Thanks for posting them, I can always use a larff.
