Human Target

No, its not the greatest TV show ever; but I am liking the HUMAN TARGET. In fact, my entire family likes it, and thats hard to do these days...

I liked the 'turn' to the dark side it took with Gurrero this week, and I like the whimsical side it also portrays as well...

If you haven't seen this show yet, give it a try..its...well..catchy!

Decent show, really a throwback to the 80s or 90s in that it has minimal serialization so far, which is kind of disappointing to me since I like that kind of stuff. The three leads especially Haley are all good. The action is surprisingly ambitious and well done for a television show.

But the one thing I love more than anything else is Bear McCreary's score. He is doing outstanding work and rising far above the material.

His blog is an amazing deconstruction of how scoring a television show works.

I actually think the show is getting better each outing..this week's episode, with Gurrero's side plot, was the best so far. I think this show has legs...

I watched the first two episodes, but for some reason I just didn't care enough to continue. I really thought I'd stick with it, too. Oh well.

So far, this show has really felt like MacGyver to me. There's obvious differences in premise (though some strong similarities too once you get past thinking about bubble gum and tin foil), but Human Target just seems to have the same tone, pacing, structure, etc. as the kind of stories MacGyver did every week back in its heyday. I'm really enjoying it. :)

It's a shame. I really love all three of the main characters and their actors (Pushing Daisies made me a die-hard fan of Chi McBride), but there's just *something* about the show that isn't grabbing me. The stories are kinda meh and largely predictable, so maybe that's it. I dunno.

In retrospect, I think it's the motivation and purpose of the main character. It's just too bizarre. It's one of the reasons I absolutely hated Dollhouse, too. Things need to make some sense to me, and this one is pretty iffy.

I'm about to marathon the first four episodes.

Well... maybe not... Tricia Helfer was the only thing I found interesting about the pilot.

I couldn't make it thru the pilot episode. Way too same-old same-old for my tastes. I knew I would have to bail when I heard the opening narration - wow, interesting and edgy! But it turned out to be the killer du jour rather than the main character, who was bland by comparison. Not a good way to start out - getting my hopes up and then crushing them under the weight of sheer mediocrity.
