Hugh Jackman hosting the Oscar's!

I think Gervais is pretty funny. He has this sort of "everyman" quality that makes him very amiable in my opinion. I think he would have been great for the Academy Awards.

Wow. Didn't know so many people hated Ricky Gervais!

Anyway, Dark Horizons has more information on this year's telecast, which interestingly enough is being produced by Bill Condon (director of Kinsey, Dreamgirls).

Though the awards have generally been hosted by comedians in the past, producers Larry Mark and Bill Condon plan to get rid of the joke-telling portion of the show this year including the signature opening monologue. The awards themselves are said to have been revamped from top to bottom for next year's ceremony which takes place on February 22nd.

Looks like they're shaping up formula. I don't know about removing the opening monologue, since that is usually my favorite part of the show (depending on the host) and I always thought it allowed the host to start becoming comfortable, but I'm interested to see how this pans out. Will it be like the Golden Globes where we go straight to the awards presentation?

The jokes and poking fun at it all is always the highlight of the show!?!

Fuck, bet they'll keep the boring as shit musical numbers with the interpretive dance.

I'll NEVER forget that Debbie Allen choreographed interpretive dance number of "Saving Private Ryan".

Wrong on just SO MANY levels.

^Agreed! Or he could do it this way:

I don't care. I'm just glad for the prospect of being entertained at an awards show for the first time in I don't know how long. The so-called-humorous monologues rarely strike me so. I miss the days of the Hollywood entertainer - the multi-talented individual who has charm, charisma, and can do more than pretend they're someone they're not. Hugh is positively lovely - he's attractive, he sings, he dances, AND he acts. I can't wait to see what we get from this year's Oscars.
