Didn't Xavier tell Logan to fuck off in DOFP?
Yep, but it was McAvoy, not Stewart.

btw this was from a few days ago but I haven't seen anyone post/discuss it
Hugh Jackman says Logan is not set in the same X-Men universe

If you watch the interview it's not as cut and dry as maybe the title says, but still... I haven't read Old Man Logan but isn't it basically just a what if alternate future? So this could maybe be something like that. Jackman does say when you see the movie you'll understand so maybe it will come together by the end. Overall though I gather the main point is they've just given up with the mess that is the X-timeline and just purely wanted to make a good Wolverine movie where it doesn't matter if you've seen one X-movie but not the other, or watching it and worrying "well what about DOFP, or X-Men 3, or Deadpool, or this, or that" etc. Which I can understand.

^ I forget if it was on this board, but I read someone suggest Logan could take place in the post-The Last Stand timeline, before DoFP wiped and improved it, meaning the victories of DoFP and the current timeline, Apocalypse included, would be preserved, and this story never really happened. I hope that's the case, as it strikes me as the ideal solution.

^ Huh? Like, before the future scenes we see in DOFP? I doubt it, seen as they were only in 2023, and Xavier in Logan looks far older than he did in DOFP, unless he suddenly gets better at the end. And where are the Sentinels etc, seen as by that 2023 future we saw they'd already been around and taken over for a fair while.

That doesn't make sense.

Mangold has clarified that the movie is set after the end of DOFP in the revised timeline.

"There's an epilogue scene in Days of Future Past which is 2024, or 2023, something like that. I just wanted to get far enough past. My goal was real simple: it was to pick a time where I had enough elbow room that I was clear of existing entanglements."

Oops, forgot about all that. Never mind. :p

I'm honestly glad this movie isn't really pertaining to the timeline of the others.

The X-Men movie continuity is so muddled most of it doesn't make a lick of sense anyway. Better for Mangold and company to just focus on making a good movie that is a worthy swansong for Hugh Jackman's tenure as Logan/Wolverine.

Also, a pretty badass TV spot. Can't wait for this.

Yeah, this seems like the kind of story that would probably be better as it's own thing, without worrying about trying to fit it into the other movie's continuity.

For some reason, the more of X-23 they show in the trailers, the less interested in the movie I slowly become.
Psycho knife-wielding kids just doesn't seem to hit my buttons right.

Regarding Logan's setting, it keeps on being reported that the film is set in 2024, but it's not; it's set in 2029, which is far enough past the future ending of DoFP for, as James Mangold notes, there to be "elbow room" for him to tell his story without having to explicitly reference previous events.

The X-Men movie continuity is so muddled

It really isn't.

most of it doesn't make a lick of sense anyway.

Only if you're extremely obtuse.

There was a round of early pre-screenings last night so reviews are starting to hit the webs and so far it's all been positive. 97% from all reviews on RT, 100% from the "Top Critics" though the site says there's not enough reviews yet for a consensus to be generated. But I've watched a few video reviews (IGN, Jeremy Jahns, Chris Stuckmann) and all are very praise worthy of it giving it very high grades. So, looks like this movie is going to kick ass! Can't wait!
