HP Probook 4530s

Go look this laptop up. I'm seriously considering buying it as my next school laptop. I will need it and will need to upgrade memory for the virtualization I'll be doing for coursework.

I want your opinions of it. Are there other manufacturers offering similar options (i3 2310M or so) for equal or lower prices?

I've no experience with that particular model, but I can tell you I've had nothing but good experiences with HP computers. I currently have two, a desktop and a netbook, and both are well-built machines. Especially the desktop, which I've had for nearly six years now, and it's still trucking along admirably.
