How Would You React?

How would you react if you came home to find a dead and rotting snake in your mailbox???

I don't know if perhaps the snake crawled up the post and into my mailbox, a child put the snake in there and it later died, or if someone is trying to start a campaign of terror.

I guess first off I need to get something so I can handle the smell, and get the thing out of my mailbox.

I would shriek, then go find my husband and make him gently prod it to see if it's really dead while I watch from a distance.

I would also stop getting the mail.

After checking with my mom, who delivered mail in this area for many many years, it was probably the damn neighborhood kids who put the dead snake in my mailbox.

I would have jumped back if l seen a dead snake in the old mail box.

I know once l opened my mail box to see a huntsman putting up its front legs but l have never seen anything dead in there.

I would find the neighborhood kid (and I know just which little bastard it would be, too), and make him eat it.

I'd leave the dead snake in there. let the mailman (or femailman as the case may be) deal with it.

I don;t think there is much chance of my finding a rotting snake in my mailbox as I tend to go to it every day and threrefore nothing would have a chance to to get to the rotting stage.

If it was only a dead snake, and I knew for sure it was dead I would remove it.

As soon as I saw it, I would probably jump back and yell, "Jesus fucking Christ!" Then I would examine it to make sure it was dead, and then I would find a very long stick and drag it out and let it drop to the ground.

I'd wonder how such an animal made in to my mailbox as we aren't exactly overrun with the things in the UK.

On the other hand, grass snakes do have their "pretending to be dead" trick. And if you poke them to be sure they release a foul smell apparently to convince you. Could make it more exciting!

That must have been quite a shock, though MetalPants. Any idea what sort of snake it was?

The kids probably put it in my box on Sunday-when there is no delivery. So it had both Sunday and Monday, two warm days, to sit in my mailbox. I ended up having to shove vaseline and cotton balls up my nose so I wouldn't gag from the smell.

What type of kid thinks to themselves, "Hey, let's scare the crap out of the mail carrier, commit a felony, and defile someone's property by putting a dead snake in a mailbox."

I'd probably jump a bit, do a double-take, then sigh and get a plastic bag and remove the thing.

I'm not too surprised by finding dead animals in weird places. The weirdest was when I was a kid and found a dead bat on the stairs in my house. My mother didn't believe me when I said there was a dead bat until I brought it to her (stabbed with a fork, no way was I going to touch it with my bare hands.)

I would rather have found the snake alive, at least then it would have eventually slither away. Dead- ewww.

I often find small spiders or lizards(alive fortunately) in my box(South Florida, so not surprising there are little critters lurking everywhere here).
