How would you re-imagine and reboot Enterprise?

I wish the uniforms were something more akin to the Franklin uniforms in Beyond. Which, I guess canonically, are only about ten years away when Enterprise starts. But the blue uniforms we got, while I get how they were trying to tie them to NASA, looked too much like autoshop overalls to me.

Isn't that the point? They were to look utilitarian, designed to show the connection from both NASA as well as Cochrane's first flight. Possibly connecting to submarines too. I would imagine uniforms would change considerably once the Federation starts.

I mean I get the point of them. They work for what their intent was. I just think visually the Franklin uniforms looked better as a prequel uniform. Just a personal aesthetic preference if we're going to discuss reimaginings and what we would do differently.

If I had to actually wear a Star Trek uniform everyday, I would want to wear one of the Enterprise uniforms.

I get your point overall, but I think if one is reimagining Enterprise there is still a place for a sense of history. Even if the Enterprise crew doesn't use the jumpsuits, or just the enlisted rates, I would still have them as part of the uniform history and then the latest and greatest get a uniform more akin to the Franklin uniform.

I already do that by going with the novel explanation that what we see Riker run is a cover-up that'll later be uncovered by Nog and Jake, so the much better two parter before it is the real Enterprise finale and TATV is just an extra TNG episode running alongside The Pegasus.

Let the teaser be Archer beginning his speech. Then after the opening credits, we see an audience watching the closing moments of his speech at the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Federation, as the NX-01 crew reunites to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the NX-01 and recount their missions, with whatever perspective they’ve gained in the 50 years since.

Also show the cast having some fun, such as Archer singing, Hoshi ballroom dancing, T’Pol attempting comedy, Mayweather playing one of his famous pranks, etc.

    1. No country music
    2. Frankly, THIS series, in 2001, was the time when "Star Trek" should have done the non-white female lead, and the openly gay regular character.
    3. Replace T'Pol with young T'Pau. If royalties are an issue, find some way around it. Blackmail someone if you have to.
    4. The captain should be the "space-boomer," or at least someone raised on an offworld colony.
    5. Make more of the cast...relevant to the time period. The chief engineer is a rugged cowboy from the space Frontier, of one of Earth's earliest offworld colonies. The security chief is a primitive cyborg war-vet. The communications officer studies alien cultures. Etc.
    6. Make the diversity just a little less...lazy and obvious? Have the European be German or Swedish. Have the Asian be from Malaysia or Thailand. And how about remembering that Africa and Australia exist.
    7. No holodecks, Ferengi or Borg. Actually comit to being a prequel.
    8. None of the sleezy attempts at fan service, except in episodes where people are going crazy or dreaming or something.

    4. how would a space boomer have made it to commander (and a good one) to get the first warp5 ship by then?
    5. tropes, plain and simple
    6. of course but then trek is still primarely for an american audience
    7. yep but i still like I-19 acquisition (it wasn't really necessary, though)
    8. i don't have a problem with fan service when it's done well (i especially liked the vulcan trilogy in series IV)

With this in mind, I think it would have been cool to make Malcolm Reed a true villain and have him work with Terra Prime instead of Section 31.

If not a true-blue villain, someone with his own agenda, which causes him to switch sides at some point. Maybe he could have been the one who gave Terra Prime the bits of T'Pol and Trip necessary for Elizabeth's conception, instead of a hapless ensign who blows his brains out.

Regarding the uniforms, maybe they could have even had them show signs of wear and tear or fading... after all, the ship probably has relatively simple laundry facilities.

Ok, I finally got ahold of a time ship, blackmailed a few people, suffocated an executive in their sleep. It's now 2001, and I'm in charge of the new "Star Trek" prequel.

The ship is the U.S.S. Discovery
Frankly this name fits far better for Humanity's first venture into the stars.

    Michelle Yeoh is the lead.
As of 2001, she's fresh off of "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon," she's the right age to play the captain with just enough experience to qualify for the part, but still young enough to feel in over her head.

    Dr. Phlox is a Tellerite.
You want a doctor that's, jolly, comical, and comically "alien?" Instead of making up yet another rubber forehead species, how about developing a race relevant to this Prequel's time period. A piganoid can provide ample "jolly fat guy" antics without having a buttcrack on his forehead.

He will also have a medical staff to assist him, because having only one doctor who isn't even human for the first human ship out exploring would be ludicrous.

Trip Tucker is from the new "frontier."
You want a charming cowboy as chief engineer? Instead of making the Texas stereotype so literal, how about making his background relevant to this prequel's time period. Trip is from one of Earth's first colonies. He's a great engineer because his family helped literally build their community, out on an alien world.

The Chief of Security is Australian, and a veteran of the Eugenics Wars. (We're ret-Khaning the Eugenics Wars as having happened later than the 1990s.) Severely injured in the wars, he's a very primitive cyborg, and some of his cybernetics are highly experimental. He harbors some prejudices against the genetically modified. He has a soft spot for his pet beagle.

The pilot is still a space-boomer, but his background will actually be treated as relevant. He's also openly gay.

The translator is your obligatory Vulcan character. You want a Vulcan Seven of Nine? Fine, but don't also make her a Spock knockoff by being first officer. Since Vulcans have already been exploring, it makes sense for a Vulcan linguist to be familiar with the languages of aliens Humanity hasn't met yet. Her Vulcan telepathy will also aid her in w the languages of aliens that are new to her.

The First Officer will be an older human (Edward James Olmos, maybe), who wants to tread carefully and do everything by-the-book. He's paranoid because he's from the Mars colony, and survived a catastrophe that happened during the terraforming, caused by someone trying to cut corners. He's a huge killjoy in the Decontamination Chamber.

There's a lot of great stuff in there. Recently I've been coming around to the Phlox-as-Tellarite thing myself, so that way by the time Shran comes aboard all four founding races of the Federation are represented aboard the NX-01.

YES! It frankly boggles my mind that they didn't make him a Tellarite....or put any effort into making any of the characters' backgrounds relevant to the timeframe other than Mayweather...and then barely used his character...
