How would the series be different if Garak was successful in obliterating the Founders' new planet?

Let's assume somehow Worf was subdued by Garak or that he agreed with it. The Vorta don't have their gods and the Jem'Hadar end up killing themselves. But then I guess there's the hundred who wouldn't be affected...

To begin with, I doubt they'd have come out alive themselves. Surely as soon as any Jem' Hadar in the vicinity understood what had happened, they'd attack without any reserve.

Secondly, it's highly doubtful all Founders were in the Great Link at the time - a few could have been on a mission. The Dominion would regroup around those few survivors- they're still considered gods after all, and they would have focused on a new mission. Not dominating the involved Alpha Quadrant species, but exterminating them.

Defiant immediately destroyed killing most of the cast. I think the Vorta might be able to rationalise around the loss of gods like Kilana. The immediate Jem Hadar might kill themselves but I wonder if their fleet would just start flying through the wormhole and kamikazeing anything in sight. DS9 is overwhelmed and destroyed. Bajor takes some major hits. Martok-Changeling probably will take off to try to get the Jem Hadar to stop and takes command of what's left of the forces in Alpha. The Federation sends a fleet in and destroys the wormhole. Without ketracel white the Jem Hadar in Alpha just die. Martok-Changeling hides out or turns into a squid and flies home the long way. Maybe there's still some changelings in Gamma but if not I think the Dominion just falls to pieces over time and Martok-Changeling arrives home and it's just a shitshow.

Yes, there must be thousands or tens of thousands of Changelings away from the Great Link at any given time. Enough for continuity of the race.

And, yes, the Changelings would certainly show no mercy against the Alpha Quadrant powers. Even if it makes otherwise desireable planets uninhabitable.

Had Garak gotten that shot fired, most of our cast would be dead. I agree that the War would have happened anyway. Assuming that many Founders serviced along with Volta and Jem’ Hadar, as some have posted above, there’d be a a war. DS9 and Bejor might have been destroyed right away.

The Defiant would have been destroyed instantly, the Vorta would have tried to keep the Great Link's destruction a secret and retained control, then the secret would have gotten out and the Jem'Hadar would have gone berserk and seized control of the Ketracel White production facilities. Subject planets of the Dominion would have been devastated, and then a Jem'Hadar fleet would have come screaming out of the Wormhole looking for mindless revenge. Deep Space 9 would have been obliterated, Bajor and Cardassia would have been glassed, and God knows how many other worlds would have been razed before Starfleet finally defeated the Jem'Hadar fleet.

What if either the Federation or the Prophets closed the wormhole?

Then billions would be dead in the Gamma Quadrant as a result of the violent collapse of the Dominion. Still not exactly a better scenario.
