How would a new TNG film affect Trek Lit.

Director Bryan Singer is hell bent on making a new TNG film. The trouble is he can't get the studio to approve it because of JJtreck.

I heard him on the radio say if he has to fund it himself he will it just won't be as big.

He and several TNG tV writers wrote the script but for some reason he won't say which ones?

So I doubt it ever will but say it did would this film kill the relaunch universe?

They'd be wise not to let him do a TNG film after STXI was such a massive success and Nemesis such a massive flop.

But hypothetically, the relaunch novels could probably be squished into any new canon's continuity. "The Doomsday Bug" bridged the DC comics' post-STIII series (where Kirk commanded Excelsior and Spock commanded the Surak) and STIV. The same can be done again, if need be.

Naturally, if there were new canon that contradicted the books, then subsequent books would have to conform to it, because that's the obligation of tie-in literature. Maybe, potentially, there could be a way to reconcile the book continuity with the new film, though it might be awkward and have some logic holes (like DC Comics' efforts to reconcile the events of their comics with the events of new ST movies). But if they were incompatible, then the book continuity would probably just come to an end and be replaced by books consistent with the new version. Indeed, that's what already happened when TNG came along nearly a quarter-century ago. There was an ongoing continuity unifying many of the Pocket novels of the mid-'80s, but as TNG increasingly contradicted the assumptions of some of its core novels, the continuity elements were dropped in favor of standalone novels that were compatible with the screen canon.

But... what's this about Singer wanting to make a new TNG film? I can't find any news about that online. His proposal, which was publicized last month, was for a series that would jump the universe forward to the year 3000 -- and although a proposal was written, Singer never actually pitched it.

I guess like Star Fleet Year One when ENT came out.

But Im conflicted if I would want it to happen. TNG was the Trek I grew up on but I'd rather have a new TV series!

The new TV series should be Vanguard it would work perfect along side JJ Trek because it happens at the same time!

Singer mentioned once at a premier that he would be interested in directing a Star Trek film. I don't even think the comment included the TNG cast. I think that the op is probably overzealous and leaning into his comments too much. I don't remember any other statements from Bryan about directing a Star Trek movie. Besides which, with his numerous other projects he is attached to right now (including possibly directing X4) I very much doubt a TNG film is in his future.

I think there is 0% chance if it happening but it would be interesting to see how it affected everything!

It'd be a pity; I think some really good films could come out of the "Pocketverse."

I don't mean sequels to the novels, I mean just treating them as off-camera backstory; the film-going audience won't care if the character replacing Data (as the Science Guy) is "Bob Smith" or "Dina Elfiki" --either one would need a new backstory to avoid being a cardboard cutout, and if you're going to be "rolling up" new characters anyway. . .

Especially since the alternative would be to Deus ex Machina the original cast back together and undo any intervening character development (which annoyed me with the original Trek movies too).

Now that I think about it...I believe Singer first made the comment at the premier of that television mini-series that he co-produced with Dean Devlin called "The Triangle". We all know from his cameo in "Star Trek: Nemesis" and the aforementioned not pitched, pitch that he is a big Trek fan, I just don't think it possible. He has too many projects on his slate at the moment.

But... what's this about Singer wanting to make a new TNG film?
The only thing I've seen from Singer recently on the subject of Trek is this:
What’s interesting is that people know I’m a big Trekkie, and they’re always saying, “Why don’t you do a Star Trek?” and I say, “You know, I think I’m TOO big a fan of Star Trek. You’d feel like you were watching Wrath of Khan again."

I hope he's not hanging around here. If so I'd just be mortified for him, because of the way people bash Superman Returns. Not me of course, I loved it but... others.
