Fuck the holodeck.
Fuck the holodeck.
I'm not sure if it's relevant besides the fantasy aspect of the gimmick. It was easier to swallow for a period story on a holo-thing-ama-jig than an alien planet embracing it. Why would the ship's computer authorize a hologram when it could do the function itself; emergency medical or engineering or otherwise? The hologram was a staple point for Voyager and they went as far as the concept could go in my opinion. Will they even bother? Will they want to move away from that stuff?
I guess it depends on when it's set but if it's post TNG (in either timeline) then holographic technology (and even characters) will presumably have a role to play in the new show.
I think the logical next step is for the entire ship, including crew quarters to have holo emitters in them. Hell, you could theoretically have the entire ship be an empty husk simply filled with holo emitters (save for the engines and weapons etc). A big empty monster where all the rooms are projected.
And if holographic rights have continued then chances are, we'll see a number of holographic crew members.
Or would you like to see holographic technology die? (cos you just know they'll throw some holodeck filler episodes at us).

It was not about the technology or expense. They thought it was confusing to the audience.I kinda liked that one DS9 episode with the holo-emitter viewscreen, being able to hold a conversation between two captains as if they were standing on the same bridge. Too bad the technology of the time wasn't mature enough for the show to do it more than once.
Holodeck is connected to the galaxy net. So you can play with other people from other planet in another holodeck.

personal virtual reality VR systems (headsets) will seem like old technology by 2030.The new series should abandon the idea of a holodeck and holographic technology, it looked futuristic in the 80s but by now it seems like personal VR systems make more sense than a giant room you can walk into.
This device sounds very similar to room scanning and spatial mapping tech like Lidar.A holographic imager (holo-imager for short) or holo-camera was a device that recorded the form and appearance of a subject in three dimensions, so that it could be reproduced in holographic form. It required that the subject be captured from multiple angles.
Lidar (also written LIDAR, LiDAR or LADAR) is a surveying technology that measures distance by illuminating a target with a laser light. Lidar exists as an acronym of Light Detection And Ranging,[1] and was originally created as a portmanteau of "light" and "radar".[2][3] Lidar is popularly used as a technology to make high-resolution maps, with applications in geodesy, geomatics, archaeology, geography, geology, geomorphology, seismology, forestry, atmospheric physics,[4] airborne laser swath mapping (ALSM) and laser altimetry. What is known as Lidar is sometimes simply referred to as laser scanning or 3D scanning, with terrestrial, airborne and mobile applications.
