How Will Culber Come Back?

Alternately, we might get a TMP-style happy ending where Stamets joins him the great fungus in the sky.

Wilson Cruz is part of the main cast for this season, not a recurring/guest character. That seems to suggest he's going to reappear some time in the first third of the season and be in basically every single episode following. So his role in the season is much more prominent in terms of airtime than Tig Notaro's, for example, or Ethan Peck's.

My own guess is that the green spore that landed on Tilly last season has his consciousness in it (somehow, never mind how). Tilly starts acting weirder than normal. Stamets pulls some sort of "cocoon thing" out of her. Culber's body grows inside it and he pops out with all of his memories.

That spore that landed on Tilly had a very "remember" vibe to me................
Maybe the myceliel network is connected to how Vulcan Katras work (unbeknownst to Vulcans). Somehow, some way, through an alignment of circumstances that were "just so", Culber's consciousness ended up in Tilly, like a katra.
[pure speculation based on nothing specific]

So now all they need is to find a good version of his body.

I haven't seen all of the first season yet (just got into the MU episodes last night), and I've been making a point of avoiding spoilers, but possibly MUCulber?

Didn't they tell us that Culber's return would not be easy, and that it would involve some real science? Now, I expect that'll be a loose interpretation of science, but it is still interesting. We need someone who knows the real Stamets's work!

yeah like his identical twin brother joining the crew, having a twin is real science....

Enter Mudd and his Mandroids

Pike: "Mr. Mudd, we will wipe your criminal history clean if you help us purge Dr. Culber's consciousness from Ensign Tilly and install it into one of your androids."

Mudd: "And?"

Pike: "...and I will officiate your wedding to Stella Grimes, allowing you to partially inherit the late Baron Grimes' vast spice fortune. Just stay out of Federation space when we're done."

That green spore that landed on Tilly at the end of What's Past is Prologue.

It's pretty obvious.
A shuttle will board the ship and the brilliant Dr Q from Starfleet Medical will assist with the operation. Afterwards when they check with Starfleet Command they will discover no such person exists...cue twilight zone music
